Well, here's what being an arrogant jerk gets you. This guy blew a perfect opportunity to teach a class that had the potential to reach a large student audience. He just couldn't resist taunting. Foolish.

Are you referring to the professor at the last PhACT meeting? I am sorry I missed it. What did he say?

My guess

He probably meant this professor:

Twenty-five students had enrolled in the course, originally called “Special Topics in Religion: Intelligent Design, Creationism and Other Religious Mythologies,” which had been scheduled for the spring.

Professor Paul Mirecki, chairman of religious studies, canceled the class Wednesday, the university said.

Mirecki recently sent an e-mail to members of a student organization in which he referred to religious conservatives as “fundies” and said a course depicting intelligent design as mythology would be a “nice slap in their big fat face.”

Thanks, Sue.

I did the "copy" part of the "copy" and "paste" when I sent my message. I copied that link that you so kindly supplied, but forgot to paste it to my original message! That's what happens when you're rushing to do something.

Yes, you have it correct, Sue.

Thanks for catching that one!

Glenn

Wow, Sue knew exactly what you meant.

A mysterious sixth sense, or application of deductive reasoning? Maybe we'll never know.

The class was cancelled.

Should it have been?

What would have been wrong with having made a simple apology for bad manners accompanied by a promise to conduct the class in a civil and respectful manner? Lots of people say something dumb or insensitive on occasion but at heart are not really crumbs. The professors remarks might have been an unprofesional way to start a class, but once the mistake was made might also have been an excellent teaching tool for the professor and an excellent lqrning tool for the students.

And there is this matter too: Was the professor really wrong in the first place?
