Make a mental list of those things you carry to work every day. You may think of a briefcase, satchel, lunch, day planner, cell phone, or many other ancillaries of your career. But you probably didn’t think about carrying an attitude with you.
The attitude you take into work every day speaks volumes about who you are and in whom you believe. If you are excited about your work, if yours remains a stout witness for Christ, and if you truly have committed to working as unto the Lord, then you are achieving the Lord’s work no matter your vocation in the secular world.
However, if you dread work and strive little to reveal the Spirit of Christ in your labor, then you need to meditate on these verses in Colossians.
Attitude affects even the most sincere of Christian intentions: the great Leonardo Da Vinci discovered this truth in painting his famous The Last Supper in a Milan church. Legend says that as Da Vinci toiled over the beautiful scene of Christ and His disciples in the Upper Room, he repeatedly tried to brush the sweet face of Jesus just right. Nothing worked. Exasperated, he finally realized what was wrong.
Earlier, the painter had decided to embarrass a rival painter by using his face as the image of Judas Iscariot. It was only when Da Vinci, under conviction, removed his ill brushstrokes that the beauty of Christ shone through.
