Doktor
4/3/93 - 5/1/00

We are very sad to have to announce that Doktor, an FPZV approved stallion, died from a heart attack while breeding. Doktor was the first Friesian owned by Proud Meadows and naturally held a special place in the hearts of the owners and associates of Proud Meadows. Doktor will be remembered for his beauty, temperament, and class. We have frozen semen from Doktor and we will breed one of our Friesian mares with the semen and create a living memorial to our boy. We know Dok made many friends and we appreciate your sense of loss.

Thinking of purchasing

by

I'm not yet a "Friesian Fanatic," but seeing and reading some about the breed has really interested me. I'm now looking to purchase a horse and the Friesian has become one breed I have sought to look for. I was looking for some possible feedback from some Friesian owners, if there's anything to share I'd be really appreciative as my search has just started. Thank you.

Friesians

by

When I first came to Proud Meadows I came on for a temporary job as a groom during one of the Stallion Testings. I had been used to Arabs and was quite shocked to find such a docile breed. I had one stallion in the wash stall, another walked by right in front of him and he didn't even flick his ear. Of course, I was looking underneath to make sure he wasn't a gelding. Now, I'm around 20something Friesians every day. I am still an Arab lover, but let me tell you, the Friesian has won my heart.

You wont find a more beautiful horse that is so kind and brave and smart and so ready and willing to learn all you have to teach it. They are calm and laid back and love to learn. I have not met or heard of a Friesian that wasn't this way. The way they carry themselves, the shining black coat, the thick mane, flowing wavey tail, and silky feathers, all combine to turn all the heads at any show. Your farrier will love them too as they have solid sound feet that rarely need shoes. They are so people oriented that some horses actually prefer humans to other horses. They are fairly easy keepers when kept on pasture and grain. You can ride them or drive them or use them for vaulting or dressage. The thing that strikes me most about them is the feeling one gets when looking into their eyes and seeing all the kindness and affection and joy of life, as they put their nose in your hand. Friesians are amazing horses.

Someone please help me!

by

Hi!
Let me introduce myself! My name is Jackie. We bought a half-friesian, half-arab horse about a year ago. She turned 3 years old a few days ago. She shows almost no resembelence of an arab. Her sire was Nero. My 14 year old daughter rides her. She is going to experience her first year of showing this season. We are going to show her in a local, very small, open show. Next year she will be doing dressage, but this year she would like to go hunt seat/english pleasure. We are not sure if this is even possible, but we would like your oppinion on what we should do. Please, if you have any information on us going hunt-seat please let us know. Thank you for your time.

free friesian foal drawing

by

I would love an application mailed to me! I've been a huge fan since Ladyhawke. I worked three and a half years at a layup/breeding barn and did foal watch and foaling so I feel comfortable with young horses. Thank you, Colleen.
