Make the issue about religion of course. So here we are in the US with millions of people who not only believe in a distorted last days scenerio as set out by Tim LaHaye in his "Left Behind" series but actively see this country as gods instrument and even the "New Jerusalem" revelations prophecy. It does not matter that every waning world power from Rome foreward has had such delusions of grandure these people are shaping up for the great big "Good-V-Evil" war called Armegeddon. It is a simple a clean solution for many people who find the complexities of modern life to chilling and difficult to deal with.
