I hate ticks. I don't know why ... but it seems like the are out earlier and stay later every year. And .... you used to have to go out deep in the woods to get em .... now ... they seem to be at the fringes or every field and treed area.
I don't know why but .... I always have to burn ticks. Doesn't seem enough flick them off and let them crawl onto someone else.
I have no clue, what eats ticks? I detest them and they freak me out if I get one on me. Never had them much around here or where we went on vacation but now they are just about everywhere it seems.
Why should they have a purpose? Maybe it's a difference in perspective? There's no Grand Scheme, as far as I can tell, so an organism wasn't put here, nor must it have any purpose besides efficient replication.
When you zoom out and look at us, we're just like big, purposeless, resource-sucking ticks that will eventually bleed our host dry.
Supposedly the difference between us and ticks is intellect, aside from pure physiology that is. We should understand that harming the host is bad for us, but it appears intelligence is not a guarantee toward understanding causality. Yep Rox, from the macro view we are really nothing more than big resource sucking ticks.

But again it is the absurd and its contradictory life that teaches us. For the mistake is thinking that quantity of experience depends on circumstances of our life when it depends soley on us.

I have had Lymes Disease twice, my daughter once, and my dog twice. We hate ticks too! We have a wood stove which is used gleefully in the winter to burn lady beetles and then in summer we place the ticks on top of the stove and get 'em with the bic lighter. We keep an ash tray in the kitchen for this purpose also. Cleaning out the vacuum full of lady beetles is really exciting. Ya can't just dump the contents into the garbage 'cause the beetles will fly out and back on the window sill. So we spread out a newspaper, dump the beetles in, crumple it up and wella! burn 'em in the fire. bbwwwwahahahahahaha!!!
Yes, I live in a heavily wooded area. Lots of people here have had Lymes and hate lady beetles as well. Other than that, it's just peachy!
*"Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about Him being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to." C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity*
Dang shield beetles or stink bugs. Them dang things fly around like a helicopter and .... they don't do any harm but .... when you crush them they got some kind of annoying minty putrid smell . I think they came from China or something .... and they are annoying. They don't have many predators because other animals and bugs don't like the smell or flavor.
I've got a cat that can catch em and that's pretty cool.
