Yeah. Its nice to have the dirt fields to see what your dog is doing but you need to go back to the grass often enough that he/she knows about tracking there also. You may find with the dirt fields that the dog is doing alot of looking for the track with his head down instead of actually tracking. The grass terrain will help you there. They have to use their noses more than their eyesight. You must know where each footstep is. It helps early in the morning when the dew is on the ground to be able to see it sometimes, but if the Sun is not just right, sometimes it can be hard to see there also. If you track regularly enough, you will find yourself getting better and better at knowing exactly where the track is. Picking yourself two points on the horizon helps for straight lines, as well as terrain changes. (ant mounds, trash, darker green grass clumps, sticks, bordered by a ditch, trees, etc.) | |
