Me and the Scare Crow (err umm the scare crow and I)

Well I got the piece of paper so does that mean I officially have a brain??? It still feels somewhat surreal but I graduated May 17 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I really enjoyed acadamia. I am in a GRE study group, for the summer. The plan is to take the exam in Aug/Sept and to apply to graduate schools for the fall of 2009. I will apply to Doctorate (Clincal or Counseling Psych) and Masters (MSW)programs. You have to be pretty freaking brilliant to get accepted into a doctorate program in clinical psych and I do have the GPA but am lacking in research and internship experience (which is equally, if not more, important). So, we will see. It's scary and exciting at the same time.

In the meantime I need to find a job, internship, or both. I was a stay at home mom, who worked part time here and there. The last 10 or 11 years before going back to school I drove school bus. They did offer me a job when I popped in there to say "hi" the other day!! My point is...I have never had to put together a resume or go apply for a professional job. I am feeling quite unprepared, inexperienced, and just plain scared.

So, if anyone out there is thinking about returning to school let me encourage you to do it. I was 49 when I went back. My reason for going back was I needed a job (I started in the LPN program at the tech school). The motivating factor for pursuing the Bachelor's degree in Psych was an instructor at the tech school who said, "Life is too short not to do what you have a passion for." Also a friend said, "Sheryl, you can be 52 with a Bachelors degree or 52 without one." So......anyone thinking about it.....you can be 33 or 53 or 93 with or without the degree, you just gotta take the first step.
