Response to Well....

Yeah, with the title I gave that post I figured I'd get a clever "oh God!" reply. What? No wise remark about the second coming????

The board's been a little stale, it's good to stir things up.

I didn't mean to be so simplistic as to equate "I love chocolate (or sex)" with "I love God" as if a warm fuzzy feeling alone makes one a believer. I've just been meditating a whole lot on what the Bible is trying to say about those verses dealing with predestination. A friend and I were discussing it and she got really bothered thinking it meant God just arbitrarily chose beforehand who would love Him and who would not as if He created some people to hate Him. I thought no, that can't be it. We relayed it to another friend who pointed out the predestination part in Romans 8:28-30 applied to those who love Him and they then would be "called" (meaning drawn to Him). That made more sense to me, but then I wondered when it was that I loved God first? And well, that's my post above. Make sense to anyone? Some folk love chocolate, sex, nature or Barbies, whatever and it's just a good day and that's that. Some folks start thinking "thank you" or wonder about the possibility of there being a creator--a giver of gifts--and start a search for Him. That search may lead into a whole grab bag of spiritual offerings, but for some it leads to Christ.

*"Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about Him being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to." C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity*
