not bad

January 22 2003, 8:59 AM

I think a lot of those names will in fact be on the National team, except that Gavin isn't paddling this year, Jason Roussel isn't trying out, and you're missing guys like Scott Ford and Jeff Daniels.

you forgot the drummer. Back in china we had a certain guy called tom milway. One of the best dongers I've ever seen.

wouldn't it be distracting to see your drummer's donger? I'm sure Tom is flattered anyways.

Deacon Blues

the question should be...

January 22 2003, 2:09 PM

how many of those paddles on the national team REALLY care about dragon boating. or (b) participate in dragon boating because they get to go away and represent Canada and get freebies and we in the forum talk about how good they are.

If they had a choice flat water or dragonboat.. which would they choose?
a true dragon boater and lover of the sport would choose Dragon boating.

Captain Highliner

Deacon Blues, you're an idiot

January 22 2003, 2:26 PM

I don't care if this gets my IP banned.

That has got to be the stupidest comment I've heard on the forum in a very long time.

Way to show your ignorance to the world!

Every "flatwater" paddler I know loves the sport of dragonboating. Insinuating that they are only in it for the trips...that just shows that you really don't understand real paddling.

In closing...it's people like you who give this sport a bad name to sprint canoers.

I've already started the "Free Captain Highliner" movement just in case you do have your IP blocked.

Deacon - most of those guys mentioned have be dragon boating for over ten years. How long have you?

Re: Dream Teamt national team list (past 5 years)

January 22 2003, 3:23 PM

what typos?

Plus jr if you are referring to Jason ROussel. Was known to be one of the best Team boat paddlers in Canada, not bad at C-1, but a great left in the front of a C-2 and starting dragon boating back in 89.

Also, the list does not represent the now. It was supposed to represent a "drem team" but not going back to far.

Scotty Murray would never make that team

The ultimate team would have to be the one that raced in china in 99. The flattwater national canoe team (minus steve giles) was there.

96 team rocked. I got to watch the video that team kicked Ass. The ultimate team will never come to be because usually flatwater are too focused on their own sports and always some juniors are left behind. 96 was the best but did not have the Olympians

Atilla Buday, Gavin Maxwell, Tamas Buday, Steve Giles, Max Boillard

olympians in 96

January 23 2003, 12:34 PM

No current people that were to compete at 96. It was made up of all the other best paddlers in Canada. It was without question the best team Canada has put together. The chemistry was great. It was alot of fun.

Well I would have to say I think I would take some of the kayakers on the team over the years before I would take the canoers.
Renn
Liam
Kenny
Jason Rousso
And there are many others. These guys have perfected padding on their ass. Some ccanoers have trouble.

Re: Dream Teamt national team list (past 5 years)

October 5 2004, 9:08 PM

They are great althletes. But none of them were much in war canoes, so it is not a slam dunk they would have been automatic studs in DB. No doubt they would have in the long run been excellent. For the most part C1 paddlers pick it up quicker than Kayakers. The exception are kayakers from clubs with strong warcanoe programs. They pick it up right away.

Which one of the currently ranked teams (Imps, Wongs, X-pads, Chiro, etc) has a chance of making it as National Team. I hear the Wongs wanted to try for it this year.

Considering that you've spelled a few of the real paddlers names wrong, it's obvious you don't know any of the players.

Undeserved scorn

October 7 2004, 2:06 PM

Whoever listed David and Shane in their list may have been trying to give them a compliment, but unfortunately you've opened them up to criticism and scorn that they don't deserve. Both of these are nice guys and strong paddlers, and keep in mind that they didn't put their OWN names up here, someone did it for them. Do I think they are at the level of "dream team"? Nope. But that doesn't mean they deserve to be ridiculed.

No way! Did you see what happened to those Unagi guys in those shorts.

I am brave - not foolhardy.

Though I suppose some element of bravery is needed to wear them. I remember in one of those other threads that someone said something about having attitude. It would be helpful to have "tude" when wearing Unagi shorts.

Gavin Maxwell/Dave Butterworth- I am sure you could find stronger paddlers that don't weigh 300lbs+!!! And think they are God's gift to dragon boat! They wouldn't be so bad if they were nice men.

Those montreal guys are not bad in comparison to the majority of the dragonboat world, but are not quite up to par for a dream team.
