Frenchmans Bay - 3 Entries to the WCCC!!

What's in the water in Pickering, must be the Nuclear Plant,
X-Pads, Scotia/Rouge and G&G find there way into next years WCCC,
Seems a little funny that they all chose different raceoffs, then showed up and won them!!!

Is there more strategy on that Bay then everyone has been led to believe?

The Bay is also home of the Junior World Champion Canadian Team I believe?

Maybe that's why everyone attends the Pickering Festival every year!

Water try food

Something must be in the food too, some of those boys are big, hard to believe they can pull their weight.

Is it true G and G only paddled three times as a crew since hawaii, and all they did was train outrigger, if so I am buying some outriggers, they haul ass

I live here and see all the boats out there training all the time. It is great to see 3 local boats from my neighbourhood go to worlds. My practice shchedule was the same time as G&G and they did not show up to practice for the past 2 months. They were out in outrigger training as a group. Obvisioly it worked.
I am new to this sport as I paddle on one of the local crews in the area. I did notice the PDBC even has 2 outriggers. Can some please guide me to my next steps in outrigger?

G&G practiced DB right up until they went to Hawaii around mid August. After that they trained their @sses off in outrigger.

Actually, if you notice, All the teams that are going to WCCC next year all are run by or have a core group of individuals who were/are a part of WRCC in the past, or present, ITS NOT THE WATER!

PDBC has Oikawa's, Scott Murray, Brian Urbanik, and some other paddlers who were all a part of WRCC. G & G is mostly retired paddlers who all paddled with Rouge at some point (Hollands, Russel, etc). Not to mention both junior berlin teams came from Rouge led by Scott Madill, Kim Oikawa, Dan and Angela Evelyn (all old Rouge paddlers and coaches) and they also joined the club and trained in small boats and war canoe. And I dont think I need to tell you the relationship with Scotia and Rouge, the team name this year speaks for itself.

In case you haven't seen the point here, its not the Bay, its the people. And the people all came from WRCC, and thats why they all know how to play the game, and how to win. C'mon its just dragonboat! of course they're gunna get in!

Back in the glory days...Rouge was a powerhouse in warcanoe. Most of the people you have mentioned were either in those crews or taught by paddlers in those boats. I think their success all traces back to these paddlers have been taught how to move the water...something that's hard to learn sitting in the back of a dragonboat.

It comes down to having a flatwater background. This has been said so many times and has created so much distention. Results speak for themselves.

Oh and it's HOLLINS!

Not sure

September 26 2005, 11:58 AM

G and G sure looked like they were having fun playing pooka this weekend. I guess they will have a hard time filling the crew next year, that is because no one likes free trips to hawaii, free outrigger training, free booze, food, being treated with respect, and being around people who love to have fun...

What a shame

G&G is not from frenchman's bay

September 26 2005, 12:00 PM

The people who control the team might be from the Bay, but their superstar paddlers are from MCC, Halifax, and all over

and next year add Scotia-Rouge to the mix of G&G superstars, that should just about put the nail in the coffin for the open division.

Actually Yes

That is so bad, but really what is the point of debating this stupid thing any further. Congratulations on your "Club Crew" entry win.

Frenchmans Bay paddlers, don't let your heads get too swollen. There is a crew of young studs who paddle on Sixteen Mile Creek and who have dominated Jr. and Sr. War Canoe the past 3 National Championships. If these guys ever decided to jump into a dragon boat....

you talking about Burloak canoe club?! When and if they show up, then you can talk, but if you're not in it, you can't win it.

so if G& G is so great...

September 27 2005, 1:21 PM

now , what the hell happened to them in pickering. I dont want to say stacking but what the hell, its a significant leap. The other teams that made the worlds have been consistently strong throughout the season even the ones that just missed it.

Weren't prepared in Pickering.Had one bad race that put them in A Con...which they won by open water. They were a great team in Pick too, just not as prepared. Not a lot of DBing the last few years for many of them.

"If these guys ever decided to jump into a dragon boat...."

There is always a collection of individuals somewhere that's potentialy better and faster and stronger and prettier and better smelling.
However, unless they come and race it's all if and maybe.

Acctualy those guys from Burlok canoe club are all flaties as well so wouldnt that just piss you off even more? If we get all of them to come out and do all the festivals then it would be just flaties winning everything. Is that what we really want?

Yes. It is. Someone's gotta show these dragonboaters their role.

Enough

September 27 2005, 3:22 PM

Have to say that the "dragon boaters" have been pretty tolerant of the bashings they have taken on the forum recently. GG's win seems to have inflamed the ego's of the sprint crowd and made them beligerent on the forum once again. So who is it exactly that perpetuates the bad blood between paddlers?

Ooops, better get back to my "place".

Of course a crew of flatwater paddlers would beat a crew of dragonboat paddlers. That's a given, just like how it's a given that a Premier League team would beat an under 16 team.

It's when compared to the people of similar backgrounds that we see how good we really are.
World Flatwater Championships were held recently in Croatia. Any of you forum dwelling flatwater athletes went?
Didn't hear much about the results.
Did Russians beat on you guys again? Or was it the Germans? Or Spainards? Or Poles maybe? Romanians? It was all of them, wasn't it?
Yup, after checking the results it was all of them. Thank god for Adam Van Koeverden and Karen Furneaux, otherwise Canada wouldn't have any medals. It's all about the medals at Worlds, right?

And even tose not getting the medals are better than all of the dragonboaters here, so what is youir point. If there were better paddlers thewy would be happy to let them go get medals at the worlds for Canada...why aren't you!!!

Nobody's questioning if they're better paddlers than dragonboaters. Of course they are. They've been at it longer and harder than dragonboaters.
However, if they're going to be all "I'm hot", they should be able to back it up against people with the same level experience and expertise.
I'm not talking about people who are actually representing Canada, I know they are doing their best and they are doing very well considering the help they get.
I am talking about a your typical hasbeen who might have paddled war canoe years ago, never won anything and now thinks he's an amazing paddler because he's better than some dragonboater who's just picked up a paddle.
