DBC national team trialsJanuary 28 2006 at 6:21 PM | Anonymous |
| - From the DBC web site:
January 25, 2006 Regarding: Date and location of 2006 National Team Trials The 2006 National Team Trials to select crews for the 2007 World Championships will take place Tuesday August 8th, and Wednesday August 9, at the Welland National Watersport Center in Welland, Ontario. There is a possibility that the competition will be reduced to one day, the Wednesday, depending on registration. More information will be released as it becomes available. These dates were chosen to limit the amount of travel for crews attending from the west who are also attending the CCWC.
Great that the western teams are being catered to here but what if I can't get a day off work? Thanks DBC. Like Harper said, the west is in. Toronto gets screwed. |

if you can't get the day off, then maybe you're just not elite enough to compete. |

I thought the next NTT was supposed to be held out west. instead it's being held on a Wednesday in Welland? Weird. |

It actually makes allot of sense and probably supported by all the teams coming from Vancouver for club crew world championships. But why Welland? Why not use the new course in Toronto? |

welland because welland has a good , fair course. ntt is intended as serious competition and have limited pr potential.ccwc have a lot of pr potential so that wins out over quality racing resulting in toronto races. |

NTT needs 1000m and Toronto has only 500m and the course is not proven yet to be fair. I may be though. Nobody knows. |

So enlighten us oh wise one.
In the absence of any credible evidence I have to agree with the analysis above. Nothing against the efforts to build a Toronto race course but for the time being it seems inadequate for any serious racing. Hopefully one day improvements will be made. |

Get real folks, it will never be Toronto, GWN doesn't have any control on the site!!
Why Wednesday, so they can throw another Regatta into it and try to attract teams coming for the CCWC and make some money off them!! |

Why doe it have to be in Toronto? All we ever hear is how unfair and biased the lanes are in all of the DB race courses in the GTA. Which course would you use for a fair race-off: Pickering, Island, Ontario Place or Marilyn Bell? You tell me which course is fair.

It's Wednesday because all teams from the west are flying in on Monday for worlds. Many of these teams are also going after a spot for Sydney so they can slay two dragons with one flight. If Toronto had built the 1000m dredged course they promised then all this would be taking place in the big smoke. They have only themselves to blame if DBC takes all their racing to Welland. |

I do it because it's fun, but I definatly don't take it seriously and it shouldn't be taken seriously because it's a joke. | |
