I heard from a very reliable source that a team that has qualified for the WCCC has at least 5 of it's guys partaking in a performance enhancing supplementation program, if you know what I mean.
The source wouldn't say which team, only that it's a team from the GTA.
just when I thought that this was the stupidest topic I had ever seen, someone goes and makes it stupid-er by bringing in the whole flattie vs dragon boat crap into it.
congrats, a new low.
(p.s. yes, I know that's not a word, dumbass)

There was testing in Berlin, Poland and Shanghai but not at club championships yet. The IDBF rules do permit testing of any athletes registered as a member of its national association members at any time. So, theoretically, if you've signed up with DBC you could be asked to pee in a cup today! Testing costs money so I doubt it will happen here.
IDBF is a member of WADA so what would be interesting is if a CCA athlete was tested by DBC and it came back positive. This would potentially ban the athlete from canoeing and dragon boating.

Talk about a stupid premiss. How would anybody know about 5 members of a team doping? Think a team would have a steriod sign up sheet? EPO parties ?Or a DB team that does their own testing?

omg!!!! This is making the cover of "Dragon Boat WOrld" for SURE!!!

really?
February 27 2006, 1:40 PM
if that's true (and it's on the forum so it must be, right?) then its the lamest thing i've ever heard. i can see the profit motive behind pro ballplayers doing it... but club dragon boaters!?!? please. is anyone that stupid?
what does one stand to gain from an drug-enhanced win at WCCC? money?--nope. fame?--nope. status?--nope. personal sense of pride/accomplishment?--nope. shriveled testies and hideous bacne?--absolutely!
i concede some may be doing it in DB, but my bet is they're stupid, vain muscle-heads who'd be doing it regardless of whether they were paddling.

Now that Anonymous has officially dispelled the rumour, it has to be false.

Steriods is nothing new to any sports .They have already been in use for some time by people on some crews out there but its up to DBC to take a closer look .
DBC doping control
tattle-talers welcome!

Please let DBC know if you suspect some members are using banned substances. Thank you.

someone got a list of these banned substances? I'd hate to take a tylenol on race day and have my team be disqualified.

DBC is a member of IDBF who is a member of WADA so it's the same as any other national sport organization. Look it up on the WADA web site.
Please note that some substances such as alcohol are restricted in some sports while not in others.

you want to know who is juiced up? just look at who is going to the ccwc. There is a reason the real club crews are not represented. Got pushed out be "flatties" not because they are better paddlers but cause they are beter paddlers on the juice.
I'd love to see everyone get tested. Suddently all the times would be slower and all the massive dudes would shrink and the big sponsorship money would dry up...
Can't have that though, let's just not test ok?

I guess if a flat water paddler is better then a db paddler it's because of roids!? Not the fact that they train 5+ times a week and have been doing that most of thier lives. No it's because we all take juice. Actually we do get tested so if you want to be pointing the finger start looking at these hacks that call themselves paddlers but don't want to train more then 3 times a week. Instead they create rumors of why flatties cheat.

Hey Sparky, don't sweat it. No one took that post to be anything more than rank stupidity and flame throwing. Don't believe for a minute that all "dragon boat" paddlers think that all flatties are drug users.
Actually, we do. But not performance enhancing drug users. We KNOW that you're all a bunch of pot heads, but that's cool.

Trust me, the IDBF want to catch someone. It would help their cause to actually report a doping infraction to WADA. Especially if the person is also an ICF athelte.
