The West Rouge Canoe Club (WRCC) would like to invite participants to the
Second Annual WRCC Multi-Sport Regatta.
The event will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2007 on Frenchman’s Bay, Pickering. Due to the growing popularity of all forms of paddling in the G.T.A., WRCC has created an opportunity for participants to race in Dragon Boat, War Canoe and Outriggers all at one event! The event is open to all levels – novice to experienced paddlers.

Race Information:

Race in ALL three disciplines and compete for the Multi-Sport Cup and a free entry into the 2008 WRCC Multi-Sport Regatta!

Each team is given 3 Dragon Boat races (2 timed heats and a final). Each team will also race in both War Canoe and OC6 (a combined time from each race will be used to calculate the winner for the War Canoe and OC6 division).

Crew Facts:

All Dragon Boat teams must have a steersperson, drummer and a maximum of 20 (min. 16) paddlers. Each Dragon Boat team must have a minimum of 8 female paddlers in every race. WRCC volunteer steerspersons are available for any crew requiring an experienced steersperson.

All War Canoe teams must have a maximum of 16 (min. 8) paddlers. No minimum number of female paddlers is required.

All OC6 teams must have a maximum of 6 (min. 4) paddlers. No minimum number of female paddlers is required.

Cost: $300.00 per team

Lunch time fun races and BBQ!

Sounds more and more like a dragon boat event to me. Let's face it this is just a foot in the door to eventually displace the Pickering Dragon Boat Festival. Discuss.

I highly doubt it. Its a different regatta and incorporates 3 disciplines under 1 regatta. very different from anything currently out there.

Has anyone done this?? Comments.

I've done this event twice (even though they're calling this year's event 2nd Annual, there was a small, informal race with this format a year before).

It's not an event for a third year paddler who expects super timing chips, medals, dredged lanes and helicopter support.

It is a great event for a team or an individual who wants to hang out for a day with a bunch of paddlers from various disciplines, try as many boats as possible, have some fun races (dragonboat + war canoe + outrigger), finish the day with a beach BBQ and beer... Did I mention beach BBQ and beer?
