Congratulations to this year's winner, New College!!! They join the legendary rankings of the bashed with a stellar performance in 2007-08 - pretty much hijacking all Waterloo and many following threads. Thanks to all teams for participating and better luck next year.

2005-06
TCBA RipTide- Suspected of generating much of the forum trash talking, particularly with their “RipTide will not be denied!” slogan. Message to team was intercepted and posted exposing a lot of self hype and back patting following winning Waterloo in the ever suspect lane 5.

2006-07
Shockwave DBC- Much improved team was accused of having an over inflated ranking time based on Stouffeville results. This ranking eventually adjusted down and they paddled well enough at GWN to put the pundits to silence – but not after earning most hated team of the year.

2007-08
New College- Suspected of instigating more than their fair share of trash talking on the forum but were then accused of sand-bagging at Waterloo with much slower performances setting up a better lane placement and overall win in the final.

RUNNERS UP:

Eat Trout- Put four men on their women’s crew and won the B-final in Oakville - thus changing their roster. Defence was that they wanted to rest their top women for the mixed race and that they were old.

Mayfair- On top in 2007-08 – resulting in random bashing.

Hanalei- fortunate lane placement, always a good reason to run someone through the mud.

Mofos- for being the mofos (and pretty much the default winner if no one else can step it up).

WRCC- Someone was out there to get them - attacking their ranking for mysterious and unknown reasons.

While Mayfair gets bashed partly cause they are on top, they also get bashed because they are arrogant and high on themselves. They have also weakened other teams (Sudbury, Scotia Rouge, Hanelai to name a few) by stealing paddlers. So they are an easy target.

That said, they are very good and they are obviously taking pains to tone down their arrogance in the last year or so although now it comes off as somewhat condescending.

I believe the announcer said they were paddling with 16 and when they went up on stage he called them the Scarlem Dragons, so go figure.

NC has always been bashed here and there on the forum, but this year was exceptional. The only difference this year is that the UC Waterdragons are not the top team and therefore its pretty obvious that the increase in bashing is coming from them.

For example, only a UC Waterdragons paddler would notice NC paddlers on the hammerheads last weekend (see post at 4:16 PM) It’s particularly obvious since there were only one or two NC with hammerheads this weekend. Only someone who really really really cares about NC (pretty much nobody) would notice something like that.

You could probably even narrow it down to the UC paddlers paddling for Piranhas this weekend. Since they were likely the only UC in attendance.

Or i could be wrong.

As it has been said before. "Some days you're the dog, other days you're the hydrant" All this university crap happened at the same time New College rose up in the ranks. You guys should take a page from the real top teams and stop posting annoymously yourselves. Sure you'll still get some heat but no one gets it nearly as much as you do and that's all because you say stupid stuff to incite them. It makes them train harder and makes your chances of repeating your success smaller. You've only been good for 2 years and clearly good for just 1. There have been other uni teams with far better long term track records that have spanned multiple periods of graduation attrition. If its true you guys did have older paddlers who have finally decided to leave, it would be a REALLY SMART thing for you guys to shut up since you can't be sure you'll be able to duplicate your success again. Especially with you pissing off your competitors at every opportunity.

People keep saying how New College "Cheat." How? They would have been DQ for races by the organizers.

NC doesn't cheat. They just know and test the rules better than most other teams do.

Since we all pretend to have a brain we must all know about chess. If you dont know about chess, please stop pretending to have a brain:

- Just because you do not know about "en-passe" does not mean it is illegal for someone to use it against you.
- Just because all games are touch-move does not mean you have to move if you touched and nobody was watching.
- Just because your opponent forgot to click his timer it does not mean it is unsportsmanlike to NOT tell him.

If your opponent is not mature enough to know or deal with these issues, he should not be playing until he knows how sports/games/ref's work.

Ever watch an international soccer game? Cheating is part of their game.

I believe the term is "en passant" (in passing).
Chances are that if you know this move, and your opponent does not, you're going to win anyway.

And to paddle slower to get a more favourable lane is just good strategy. I've even seen this in the Olympics -- a 100m sprinter in the lead shuts it down at 70m because the top 3 runners advance, so they save their energy for the next heat.
Again, if you know this, and your opponent does not, you're likely going to win.

This is all assuming that new college did actually slow down or "dog it" out of strategy and not just coincidence.

Regardless, new college seems to train hard and take the sport seriously and that’s good for all of us, particularly other university paddlers. The vast majority of university teams are nothing more than ethnically oriented social clubs. Its not surprising academic institutions don’t take them seriously.

Don't hate, nc is well organized and have really put together some good teams over the years. Getting better, except of GWN where they didn't have their regular crew.

The so call other top uni teams befor NC were only considered dominant because the level of UNi racing back then were much weaker. If those same crews tried to compete now, they'd be looking at the backs of NC and other crews.

That's a screaming short Jason. Poor management, weak fundamentals and a workforce culture of arrogance all point to this stock being overvalued. The departure of long-tenured executives will hurt this company the most.
