Gord,
Are the BBQ fish going to be those tough, scrawny wild trout, or are they going to be the juicy, succulent farmed trout that are loaded with all those good antibiotics and steroids that will make me a better paddler? By the way, be sure to save the skins for me, as usual.

Sorry , no chemicals , steroids or other drugs.Documentation available. You will need to pay for your own performance enhancers.
Do we need drug testing in Parry Sound ? Could be a problem if you frequent the beer tent with the possibility of second hand "smoke".

On site racing right now and scc are clearly the class of the field after two heats. Heat in number two, bbq in three, and nat juniors in fourth.
Final to come. Weather is beautiful now after a cold start.

SCC took the 500 m with an easy open water victory. The conditions were absolutely awful with 2 foot squals. Times fluctuated from 10 sec each heat due to the terrible conditions... I still don't know why this Festival continues to go.

... not just the waves, but the wind, fog (at one point), and wake from passing motor boats - which caused a bit of an, um, upheavel in the 'A' Consolation...

The Parry Sound event was great. The water wasn't that bad and by the second race was the calmest I've seen it in several years. The wind picked up for the third heat but the swells were not daunting. The A consolation involved a collision as a result of wash from a boat thayt came from behind the starter. Had it been seen the race would have been delayed. Both teams that collided were given the option of racing in the A final with their times counting toward the A consolation. Eat Trout saute's time beat the Sudbury Canoe club time by 1/3 second so they were awarded the A consolation prize. I paddled with Sudbury Canoe and I was ok with that result. I've been to 4 events at Parry Sound and while the water conditions can be challenging it's still one of my favorite festivals.

There were too SCC team's and the chiropractic's won. The last post is kind of confusing. We have been to this event in the past and again, the weather was crap. The A consolation final was garbage as the Sidelauncher's boat was waving frantically to stop the start as the wash from on looking boats were 4 feet high. The officiating should have respected their command as it is stated in the Coach's manual. The A final was out of this world.... you couldn't see nothing as the waves were all over the place. One second you see a boat the next you see heads and top arms. Parry sound should really consider putting this festival on one of the million lakes in the area or not going ahead with this at all. Kudos to the winners but it would have been much better seeing them race full out in normal weather. This is probably the worst water course in Ontario.

The water conditions were the worst at any regatta I've ever attended. There were times when the waves were so high and rough that my paddle didn't find water during my stroke. And when was the last time you saw 3 of 9 boats sinking during a 200km race?

I did the outrigger race at the festival and I would have loved to have surfed a 4 foot wave, but alas the sound was pretty flat that day. Perhaps Gord can arrange to give the outrigger paddlers the four footers next year and have you guys sprint in the flats.
The waether was a bit of a dogs breakfast but the water was pretty flat

Trinidad
June 16 2008, 9:13 AM
How did the Trini's do?
Trini - Komodo
We going down! BAIL da boat.
June 16 2008, 10:35 AM
Yep! The boat that sank after crossing the finish line would be the Komodo crew.
After the 2nd turn two boats went down and Sudbury insured that they stayed down as they swamped them on the pass trough their turn.
It was an excellent day of racing with the exception of the high waves, emergency on the dock with a full recovery, Sudbury hitting our boat on the straight away – 1250m mark. They were very apologetic as they hit us for the 2nd time. All laughs But we were determined to finish the race. We were a little surprised that the 3 safety boats including the large Coast Guard boat did not focus their attention the crews that were in the water.
The Trinidad crew was great - Surprised us at the start as just rocketed out during the 500m final. They were fast and strong. I was very proud to be a Trini. Can’t wait to see them race again at the Toronto Island.
If any one has pictures of the 2k race we would love a copies.

I thought the best bit was the locals who downed their beers in marshalling before jumping in the boat for the last race. Not a word from organizers, though they were certainly giving people a hard time coming into the beer tent...
