Strongest TeamsJune 9 2008 at 9:21 PM | Anonymous |
| - Although, after reading the forum and finding out that most teams going to Penang for the CCWC(from Canada and the US) will be watered down, any ideas which will still be the teams to look out for?
Thanks. |

Which teams are sending watered down versions to Penang? I haven't heard of anyone not taking their full roster. |

I expect Mayfair and Montreal women to dominate premier. |

Hmmm last time someone expected Mayfair to dominate at the CC's they got their butts kicked. |

Are you referring to "butt kicked" in the 2006 CCWC? Not exactly so.
They took silver in the 200 and 4th in the 500. FCRCC was just coming off the NTT and was certainly peaked, they went on to do very well in Sydney in the mixed (500 Silver). Philly (part of the boat at least won the 500 gold and 200 silver in Sydney) and Kurpfalz aren't slouches either.
Who will be there to challenge them in Penang? Philly isn't going and I don't think FCRCC is either. Macau will be fast, maybe some other Asian teams but Mayfair will be a favorite. Who else would you root for? Go Mayfair, go Canada!
2006 CCWC finals
Premier Mixed 200m
1 FCRCC CAN 45.787
2 OHDBC Mayfair Predators CAN 46.699
3 PDBC Elite CAN 46.987
4 Sony G&G Dragons CAN 47.064
5 Kurpfalz GER 47.168
Premier Mixed 500m
1 FCRCC CAN 1:57.360
2 Philadelphia DBA USA 1:58.874
3 Kurpfalz Dragons GER 2:01.302
4 OHDBC - Mayfair Predators CAN 2:01.914
5 Sloths DBC - A AUS 2:02.246 |

Mayfair is even stronger this year with some new pick ups - I think they would be the favorite to win CCWC in Penang. |

How can anyone pick a favorite in such a competition.
Mayfair will be good, but they could finish in the top flight and be proud to do so. This ain't Belleville, ya know. It's the World's best coming together.

Verdun should win a medal.
With the team comprised of paddlers from the Women's premier and Men's team they should be a lock for a medal |

What else would you call getting beaten by over 4 secs in a 500m. Thats a huge difference at the world level. Almost a sec over 200m is quite a bit as well! Interestingly enough, at the last 2 CC's the top Canadian team has been from the West coast. (Gorging in 2004 and False Creek in 2006) There are some top level Canadian teams going to Penang. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. | |
