Ok, so out of curiousity, while entering the Pickering times into the rankings, I did a quick lane bias check using my lane bias calculator (which compares crews average times in each lane to their average time - so if crews were on average 1% slower than their average time in lane 1, then the lane is assumed to be 1% slower).
As expressed, lane bias didn't play into the mix to a large extent, observations:
1. Lane one wasn't really slower for most teams, though the top teams seemed to be a little slower (remember my post on Waterloo where shallow lanes seem to have a bigger effect on faster boats and less of an effect on slower boats)
2. Outside lane was a touch faster than others.
3. Lane 4 seemed to be the slowest lane, with an average impact of roughly a second on crews. Don't know why.
Anyways, I didn't look to closely, these are just crude observations from what I saw at a first glance.
