I know this is a Kagnew website, but as there's none for the former Ethiopia-US Mapping Mission (HQ in Addis Ababa)I'm hoping for some response here. We're trying to track down personnel who were there approx 1967-68, like myself. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Hi Don,
I was at the Mapping Mission during 1965 and part of 1966. I was in a field camp called "Drifter", which moved to various locales, such as: Fiche, Ambo, Lekempte, Tendaho, Asmara, Agordat, and other places. I guess I left the country just before you arrived.
I hope you have better luck contacting former Mapping Mission personell, but they don't seem to flock to this site.

Hi Ron,
Thanks for the reply. I arrived quite a while after you left, I guess. I was at the M/M Feb 67 to Jun 68. Drifter party was still very much in operation, along with many others. I was S-3 clerk so I pretty much knew what was going on. Hopefully some of the guys during my era will see my message.
Thanks again,
Don

I was at Asmara in 1964 and 1965 working as a ground photographer for the US Air Force (1373rd Mapping and Charting). I also developed and printed the aerial film after missions. We worked at the airport, of course, but we went to Kagnew often for everything from the Post Exchange to the Oasis Club. I have a page of photos taken then in Asmara and along the road to Massawa on my web site. http://www.mindspring.com/~watsonphoto/
I think you might enjoy seeing them.

Molinelli, did you ever become a DJ? I had the office to the right of yours as you faced your desk. Ivan (john) Dulskij and I hung out together and both had motor cycles, but that may have been after you left.
I remembered you played tapes from (oh shoot I can't remember the call letters) you mom would send you. I have often wondered what you were up to these days.
I have not been in contact with Dulskij for a several years now, but I am in contact with Jim Cappadonno (spelling ???) Dinky Youngstead, Lee Rodawalt's oldest daughter, Fran Temple (EAL brat). Have you heard from many of the mapping mission guys, I got a note form Phillipson a couple months ago. I don't remember him but it was fun to hear form someone who remember the places, smells and people of Ethiopia. My wife and I eat supper in an Ethiopian place in Minneapolis last summer, it took me back in time instantly when I walked in the place.
