Biological weapons are a very real threat, especially when coupled with the fatalistic mindset so prevalent among different organizations wishing to destroy us (and some of them are home-grown terrorists...).

But there is an even easier way available to them that is even harder to protect against. No vaccines or other biological treatments will save those affected by it either.

Most communities in our country use resevoirs to store their drinking water. These are never guarded, and many are also public access for recreational purposes, such as fishing, boating, etc. It is entirely possible that bio-terrorists, bin Laden's crew or others, to poison the water supplies of many commmunities and be gone before we know what hit us.

Dioxin is one of the most toxic substances we have discovered. It is a byproduct of using chlorinated bleaching agents on wood pulp. less than a pound of dioxin put in the water supply of a medium sized city would kill thousands and hospitalize tens of thousands. Salts of mercury, arsenic and other toxic metals would likewise cause widespread poisoning. And then there is risin...

These poisons are all readily available to anyone, and coupled with our freedom of movement and easy access to the public water systems make for an interesting scenario, no?
