Response to Telemarketing - sweet revenge |
| when the telemarketers call, I like to have a spot of fun with them myself. Of course you need to be careful that you never say the word "yes", as the computers they use can clip small bits of your voice just as easy as we clip and paste text (I was told that it is done by a good friend who is a telemarketer and has been one for 4 years.)
So one of the things I like to do is to get them to explain their product in great detail, asking lots of questions and then after they have exhausted their pitch and told me how much I ask "how much if I pay in food stamps?"
Another thing I like to do is get them talking, and then if any of the kids make a scream/squeal/shriek/cry I will say "hold it for a second!" and then put the phone down. Then I just go about my business, like resume watching tv, whatever. The happy "if you would like to amke a call, please hang up and try again" message will alert me when their patience has expired. One time I had someone hold for over 5 minutes waiting for me to return... (heh heh as if!)
When the people from MCI/Sprint etc call to get me to use their overpriced long distance, I always turn the table and sell them Vartec. 10-10-811 +1-(area code)-number gets you 50 cents for the first ten minutes (even if it is a one minute call, it is billed 50 cents) then only 5 cents a minute after 10 minutes for however long it takes. That is 24/7 No monthly fees, no subscriber or sign on charges, works from ANY phone regardles (cell phones still have their own charges still). I have actually had people selling long distance ask me what that numnber was again so they could use it for themselves (heh heh).
Have fun with these people! Excelsior!
