What would be ideal...

Response to I still dont think its practical for teachers to change,

What would have been ideal for us would have been an aged mixed class, maybe grades 1-2 or 1-3. Then Emily would have social peers and academic peers. We don't have this though. I find Emily does better with kids who are younger (more her social level) or older (more patient). But what I'm finding is that as they go up in grade, social time is decreasing anyhow. We're so test driven in school now that the kids are really pushed. Emily just finished an economics unit - vocabulary words like "opportunity cost" and "limited resources." I'm not sure if she's really where some of the others are on it.

I don't think we should limit expectations of our kids, but you have to progress step by step and not move on until you are ready. Cheryl, I think you are building a great foundation with your class set up. I remember how hard you fought to get what your son needs.
