Response to Hey Stacie, got a question for you... |
| Anyway, what have I done?....
I'll try. The first thing I did was ignore the "experts" who told me my son would NEVER talk, know who I am, ride a bike, go potty on his own, etc. Have an optimistic, positive attitude.
Lots of time. I created my own home program when my son was young. It was done on my own with no knowledge of "other" programs. but when I began studying other programs it turned out to be a combination of Son-Rise, Floortime, and ABA and PECS.
I really beleive attitude has a large role. I accepted my son and his condition, loved him unconditionally. Took his "stims" as something he needed to do in order to process the world around him, or calm himself what-ever.
And I tried various medical interventions. The first one was vitamins. He wouldn't eat anything but poptarts. Had to get some nutrients to his body.
Then, I tried Vitamin A (clo)... great results. Within a week he was stating that his belly was feeling, eye contact increased and he potty trained himself. I really beleive that the reason he could not go to the bathroom is that his stomach was in such incredible pain that he could not feel the sensations of needing to go to the bathroom.
Then, I tried chelation... this has been the greatest thing we have tried!!!!!!!!! My doc said it "wouldn't work" and I told him: I was going to try with or without his support and help but I would appreciate being able to run lab work thru his office. He consented. And is still totally amazed at the changes in Daniel.... and was totally floored when I showed him the re-evaluation papers. He told me that he has reccommenend other to other parents with either AD/HD kids or Autistic for their parents to look into that option to help their child. And he has given them references to begin their own searches.
Releiving Daniels body of his toxic overload has allowed him to grow. He no longer has intention tremors. His speach has blossemed and social interaction in appropriate ways has just taken off. His self help skills has increased... His play is more appropriate - imagination!!!! He is no longer fixated on cars only. He now has strength in his hands and fingers, he can zip his pants, tie his shoes, snap his fingers...
The main thing I can say is... don't allow the "experts" pessimism to allow you not try what has worked for others. Not everything works for every kid, but somethings do work... just keep trying. | |
