Response to LOL ~~~~~DO ya have this on tape???? |
| I called the spec. ed coordinator before I called the ARC. Now the coordinator is angry and so am I. She said so many things - I just couldn't believe. This is her stance - and I did repeat it back to her to make sure I understood her right: I (the mother) want Sarah in a mainstream class. Therefore, Sarah will be getting the general curriculum. Therefore, no objectives or goals are needed. Self-help skills (I want toileting skills, cafeteria goals, etc. addressed) are taught only in a life skills type of class (her actual words were "we don't do that"). They (the school) don't do one-on-one aids. (I argued this point and then the stance became) Yes, we do one-on-one aids for children that have severe handicaps like cerebal palsey (SP), but Sarah is high functioning. She just needs speech therapy and her aids (she has short term aids) to help her with transitions, cafeteria time, toileting.
I argued that the classroom objectives aside, wouldn't we need and IEP or 504 plan stating, in writing, that she has aids helping her, what they do, etc. in case we move to a different school zone. She said that the new school would call her and she could tell them about Sarah's setup. I said - but it's not in writing anywhere? She said she would add it to that day's meeting minutes & give me a copy after school - which she did.
This may fall under the "more than you cared to know" category, but after talking to her, I hung up and balled my eyes out. I am so FRUSTRATED. Then I called the Arc. To be continued........
