How old is Troy
When/where did he get that much lead?
>130 was urinalysis during chelation?
You will need to begin chelation ASAP, do not take no for an answer. If your boy is not allergic to sulfur, DMSA is a very, very safe medication. if your doctors have their heads buried clear up their asses, have them contact Dr. Omar Burger in Cincinnatti. He has a great deal of experience with lead chelation (although he will be cluelss about merc.)
DO NOT USE ALA until the lead is under control, as in my boy it seemed to make the DMSA not bind to lead at all, but just to the merc.
As you have stated lead is a very serious problem, and needs to be removed ASAP. It settles in the marrow where it is hard to get out, and can lead to anemia as well as weak bones. It also cause neurological damage.
Have you any best guesses about the source? That is one whopping load of lead in a little boy, and I can't believe that simple PICA would have done that. Any chance he swallowed fishing sinkers, any old lead toys, old lead weights out of draperies, etc? He would have to eat a huge amount of paitn chips to get that high a reading.
One final note. Now that he has tested for lead, your insurance will mst certainly pay for the procedures. if they try to balk GO AT THEM WITH BOTH FUCKING BARRELS, GET AN AMBULANCE CHASER TO CC ALL CORRESPONDACE WITH THEM, DO NOT LET UP. lead poisoning is an completely accepted medical procedure fully covered and if they try to cheat you take them for all you can get. Report them to your state's insurance oversight person (usually part of the atty general's office), publish scathing letters in all the papers, talk to Oprah about how these cheap bastards are killing your boy.
You should not be working unnecessarily at this time, you need to be home helping your boy recover from this.
Find the source of the lead! You need to eliminate the possibilty that he will continue to get exposure to it.
Good luck, and please keep us informed. |
