GUESS WHAT!!??
are you in suspense??
well...
this morning, upon waking up had noticed that jasper had done some 'surgery' of his own last night...
he had ripped out one of his staples.. (had to tell him that just because he has been to the vets office three times in a week, does not mean he can now qualify himself as vet's assitant... )... bad choice jasper.. BUT the wound did not open up where he took off the staple, and am hoping that the rest of the staples are a little farther away then his toungue can reach... (lets hope so, because it is during the nightthat he seems to get into it, smart guy, knows that wont notice until morning)...
BUT also, he had chewed off the flesh on the whole side of his foot, where the smallest toe was, (that toe is going to loose its nail, it allready is exposed right down to the root of it, and looks very very sore!), and all the flesh on the largest pad on that foot, (the part that woudl be equivalent to the palm of yoru hand)... that must all have been dead skin.... but underneath it was beautifuly pink, raw flesh!.. with only a small area og frey coloured flesh... IT WAS PINK! blood must be going through there...
the vet was totally amazed.. he admitted that he was not expecting to see jaspers foot recouperating much more by this morning, and said "was only hoping, and waiting it out, and was expecting to have to tell you today that he needed to loose that leg"..... he was very suprised... he said that jasper was still not totally safe to say he woudl keep the leg.. he said that "if there is circulation to his toes, then there seems to be some to the bone as well"... which is still a possibility that he has such 'poor' circulation to the bone that it will rot in there... that will be known as time goes on he said... bring jasper back on friday, and see then again, if thigs keep healing like they have,or if the infection that is in there, will increase, he said if it keeps going like it is, propably the bone underneath is infected then.. BUT personally DONT BELEIVE IT.. tha there would be infection in the bone... cant be.. am certain in mine own heart that now that have seen with mine own eyes what the flesh looks like underneath the 1/2 inch think layer that fell off, there cannot be anything worse underneath it...
AND.... this morning jasper went for a long pee once again... although he seems to only pee every few days, it is still coming out slowly, (and much at once, seems it is like he is storing it)... and he went for a large BM as well, perfectly formed and not "tarry" like the doctor said to look for...
yesterday jasper did start to wag his tail when we talk to him at times, and rolls on his back and lifts his hind leg up high so he will be ready for a 'belly rub' like he really loves... that is also such a good sign... he is getting the 'fight for life' back into him.... he still is very reluctant to drink, although having brought him to the lake this morning, he drank alot from there.....
the vet said that perhaps a part of his reluctance to eat, and drink 'normally' is emotional... as had suspected also... and so, all weekend really made sure that on hourly shedule will lay down on the floor hugging him lots, and holding his paw, singing him a song, we had made up when we got him.. there is a song we drum with out native hand drum to, it is a song to the kids teddy bear.. it goes like this "teddy bear, teddy bear, ooh how i love my teddy bear".. so we changed it to "jasper jasper ooh how we love you jasper, jasper jasper what a good boy jasper"... and we all have been taking turns singing him this song hourly... and he may be responding to it.. ?...
HE IS GETTING BETTER... am sure that the dead stuff will fall off and what will be left, (seems that there will be nothing but a little nobule left of his smallest toe, only about a quarter of his largest pad (the palm of the hand part), and dotn know yet about the other toes.. they too seem now to start 'lifting' up and will see what the skin is like under there...
the doctor ordered this stuff, taht is supposed to lift off dead tissue.. said to put it on only very minimally, because it is very expensive, but this time he seemed to be a little more 'nice' didnt anymore talk about how had caused this to happen...
and when he did say that he still is not "sure" if jasper will need the amputation.. then he said "i'm noticing that jasper is a very gentle and good dog"....that was the moment to finaly came right out to him and said "look really dont like to share too much personal information, but you are right. Jasper is an exceptional soul, he has gone through much, was rescued out of a samoyed puppy mill at the age of 4 months, came into our lives, and became a healing energy in our family immediately. Have two children on the autism spectrum, and both of them have learned to accept love and give love back, because of jasper, and jasper has truly transformed out family when he arrived to be with us. We will NOT let jasper die, so, if the time comes that jasper needs to have this surgery, i would want you to consider allowing us to pay you for it over a long time because jasper is the spirit that has nurtured our family, and brought us through many struggles"... then started to get too overwhelmed, for having shared such a thing, personally, it is ok to have others say these things about us, but to say it from mine own mouth, to hear the words coming the these lips, was very difficult... it was the extent that could go, to basically 'plead' with him to consider the situatin, and please please understand that if we lost jasper, we woudl be quite devestated for a long time, and this type of a thing is hard for anyone am sure ofthat, but feel that it is much more difficult for these AS children (never mind what it is like for i, i am adult, can live thorugh it and have less trauma over long time, unlike children, who allready are stimming and not engaging very much, because they are scared about jasper).... he did NOT SAY NO.... he just said "i dont want to even have to think about it"... whatever that really means, dont understand for sure...
but think it is better then him saying, "no".. isnt it?... hope so... but think that perhaps if just told him the truth, like had done.. then at least he knows that he is making an 'informed' decision about this situation.... dono if it makes a difference, but surely ifit was mine mind, woudl say, "wow, this dog has made life affirming changes in these peoples lives, will do what can to help that continue"... ofcourse the ex-husband again said something negative, "ooh, now you are telling him my kids are fucked up without this dog.... what a crock of shit", they ,lived before having the dog... yes they lived... but also, son would do things like take turtles out of the lake, bring them home in plastic buckets, and keep them in there until days days went by, and they died, and hadnt even told i thathe had them in the barn... he had even participated with one of the neighbours kids shooting at birds and wild rabbits with the childs BB gun... seems that other pets, two cats we had (one rosa kept, and the other one ran away, or got lost
soon after we got here in this home), and our other dog buddy, who rosa kept, they didnt seem to make enough of an impact for him to connect with animal life... to have him not do those things... but now, after jasper has arrived.. he started to completely view animal life differently... he looks for jasper in the morning to talk to him, he wants to feed jasper, and calls on jasper to come follow him to the bus stop... he is extending this care towards rain-dog, and also towards the birds in the bush.. when the neighbours (little 4 and 6yr old!! imagine this!!) boys took out their BB gun, and started to do the same thing as those other older boys inkingston, mika got upset, was angry with these boys, adn told them that he woudl take their gun away, and bring it to their mom and tell her what they were doing... when the boys said their mom doesnt care, mika said that was bad, she should care... jasper hs taught mika about love in a way that have not been able to teach mineself.... that is a true testimony to jaspers increible spirit... he IS an angel 'personified' (or is that 'doggified'?) who has come to our family...
well, dono if this is necessary to keep saying the same thing over and over again...
sometimes just get stuck talking.. sorry...
just really wanted to share the good news about jaspers incredible amount of healing in the last 24 hours...
(got to scan a picture of jasper and send it, have a real nice one taken at the farm in kingston, perhaps will find a way to share it so everyone can see it, dono how yet... )
oohh, ONE more thing about jasper to share...
(on a roll now). he is the most "peace loving" being have ever seen.. (if he allready didnt have the name jasper would have named him after mine alltime hero-gandhi)... noone can ever even push anyone unless jasper gets upset..... at mikas soccer games last summer, there were these teenagers who started to push each other around and it was several yards away fromwhere jasper and mine were sitting... jasper immediately stood up, got very interested/concenrned look on his face, and started barking in the direction of those boys.. and wanted to get going over there...
even if mika and a friend plays rough, jasper will bark, and put his body in between teh two boys...
and when rosa was forcing her way into the house, while mine was pulling the door shut, jasper barked at her... tried to push his body in between us, and finally bit into her leg (a warning type of a bite, since it didnt even leave a mark) to try to stop her...
it has also been that when rosa woudl yell and us, jasper woudl bark and bark at her, standing right in front of her... and woudl run between her and mine, as if to come and see if was ok or not...
have never really experienced an animal like that... have had a dog when the ex was with us a long time ago, and that dog never seemed to care much if he was yelling and swearing or not... but jasper does not tolerate any discord at all... he is an "ambassador of peace"....
well, think that is it for now, about jasper...
just wanted to share this all.. because so many of you have helped so termendously, sending good wishes and positive energy out into the Universe, truly believe that the energy that puts forth into the world will return many fold.. and that is what is happening with jasper, he puts forth such immense amounts of love, and now he is reaping it... from you all... the suggestions on what to give him, do for him... all have been resulting from the goodness of your souls, to take the time to reflect on it... to help jasper... the beauty of your souls is shining through, and is maerializing in jaspers foot...
how immensely greatful we are....
to have found people like you....
