I have been reading a lot, lately, about domestic security and tougher enforcement of immigration laws, and it prompted me to do a little research into what it actually takes to become a U.S. citizen. While surfing around I came across a study page for the U.S. Citizenship Test. The actual test is usually 10 questions long, randomly selected from a pre-approved list of 100 (it seems like it should be longer, right?). Applicants need to get eight out of ten correct to pass.
Would you like to take a shot at it? Be careful...if you fail you might be deported! I'll include the answers at the bottom.
1. Which president was the first commander in chief of the United States Army and Navy?
2. Independence Day marks our independence from whom?
3. What are the three branches of our government?
4. Can you name the thirteen original states?
5. Who has the power to declare war?
6. In what year was the Constitution written?
7. Where does freedom of speech come from?
8. For how long do we elect each Senator in Congress?
9. Whose rights are guaranteed by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights?
10. Who signs bills into law?
