They make me feel like a dummy too. They have always treated me like that as well. I feel they think "she is just a mom, she knows nothing about educating children, she knows nothing about education at all". So no matter if you have a high IQ or not, they will treat you like you dont. They have this power thing going on as well. Ive seen it so often where they feel they MUST be right at all costs, even to the child.
I always take a paper with me that i make headings on:
Item Discussed, How resolved, Date to Start, Reason for refusal
I list all the things i want to discuss. I take notes on this paper. I get very nervous at meetings so it really does help to have that paper to keep me focused and not forget something i want to ask about.
I like the idea of the bathroom break. Many a time i was so frustrated and about to cry or scream after they get their superior attitutde that i wish i had thought of taking a break. And i see no reason you cant use the bathroom break in all situations, it really is a great idea.
I actually carry a large notebook with me that has all the item discussion page, IEPs, Evaluations, notes, ect with me.If i knew a particular law about something i want discussed i have that in there too. They have their notebooks and i have mine....lol
I think it will work out ok with this new OT helping you tho. I hope she turns out to be as perfect as she seems now.
Goooood LUCK!
