Response to fixing autism

that there is actually a place for cloning; for example cloning your vital organs when they are at their peak of health so if you ever need an organ transplant you don't have to wait for years and possibly die waiting.

As to cloning my son in order to change his outcome, no way! I wrestled with this dilemma when he was first diagnosed and I have come to certain conclusions as to why events played out the way they did but that is for another post. I love my JR and his autism for better or worse (there are more "better" than "worse" for him) is what makes him the unique little man he is. Would I love him if he weren’t autistic, yes of course…Parental love is the only true unconditional love there is. We accept our children and love them for who they are. Wanting a better life for them is part of that unconditional love.

I think the reason some parents fantasize about their kids and why so many grab onto the latest "miracle" drugs (i.e. prednisone and respirdol (spl??) just to name the most recent 2) depends a lot on the severity of their child’s autism. Jr is very high functioning and getting better everyday and that I think has a lot to do with the therapies he now gets. Therapies in the forms of speech, occupational, physical and ABA but most importantly in the shape of the vitamin regime. It also has a lot to do with me not being even remotely interested in these so called “miracle” drugs. My son isn’t going to be made anyone’s experiment if there is even the possibility that he could be adversely affected. Not to mention that being a hypocrite isn’t my thing. Why would I turn to the pharmaceutical companies when they were the initial cause of all this crap?!??!!?

The issue of cloning is a very hot topic much like abortion and like abortion it will be controversial for many years to come. Cloning isn’t the bad thing here it’s man’s inflated God-like complex that makes it a bad thing. Let’s face it man has been playing God since the dawn of medicine. Nowhere is it more apparent than in Western medicine. The marvels of modern medicine just within the last century are nothing short of miraculous. But it makes me wonder if we are doing the right thing. Especially in light of this thought: for every child born at any time during any given day a person dies. This is to keep the balance so we don’t become over populated. But we are becoming so badly over populated with so many live extending procedures and drugs that in places like China they are only allowed (by law) one child. What they do to the girls born there you don’t want to know.

BTW Dolly the first cloned mammal to survive isn’t doing well from what I read in the paper. She is suffering (if I remember correctly) from kidney failure.

If it's ok with the people who have initiated and responded to this topic I would like to post this at my groups and see what kind of response I get from my members.
