Response to THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS

I don't like the advanced publicity they are putting out about this movie.

That they glamourize a boy who killed a child out of 'sadness'. Even worse, it was a child with autism.

If this movie were about further people's understanding of autism ... I would think the publicity would read something like ...

"This is a story about a troubled young man who must come to terms with the horrible nature of his crime. While institutionalized he meets a mentor who shows him that that people with autism, and all disabilities, play a vital and important role in our society. This is a heart touching story of how one misguided youth comes to realize that all people have worth."

I have a feeling (based on what's been released so far) that it's more like ... this poor autistic kid is suffering immensely due to his disorder and see his parents in a living hell dealing with him ... and everyone will look at the kid and think it just needs to "end". They will agree that killing is wrong and the "hero" needs to understand that ... but they will see it as euthanasia, not as murder.

Let the movie producers prove me wrong. Let them come talk to the Autism Society of America, or other autism organizations, and tell us how this will increase awareness and sensitivity to autism.

Only then will I think that such a movie is acceptable.
