Look, I acree with Ms. Sissy Garvey's point of view. This movie has every reason to cause panic, and it should cause panic in both the Autistic community and the NT community.
Were the "hero" of the movie convicted of killing a child with CP, MS, or even Down's, there would be outrage across the developmental spectrum. EVERYONE would be screaming; the movie wouldn't have even made it out of the writing stage. So, considering my son, and any other child who is Autistic, is still a child, and be they disabled or not, deserving of human rights, how is it OK to NOT be worried and panicked over this gross injustice of a movie?
I am purely sickened by the THOUGHT that ANY parent, ESPECIALLY one with a special needs child would ADVOCATE this movie, much less approve of it! My son, although extremely high-functioning, is teased mercilessly by other kids. How much worse would these innocent jeerings and teasings become if children and teens saw a MOVIE that portrays the MURDERER of an Autistic chid as a hero and "compassionate"?
I sincerly hope that this movie doesn't make it to theaters, and if it does, that it flops. I hope, for my son's sake, and for the sake of all the beautiful and wonderful other Autistics out there, that crap like this will one day be seen for the discriminatory and horribly insulting work that it is.
Think about it. How would you feel if it was a true story...and teh child killed was YOURS...and your precious little baby's MURDERER was GLORIFIED in the media? |
