"wish list"

Response to How can I help?

is the best title for this writing.
these are items that perhaps am abel to find as time goes along, or perhaps not. this list is certainly not something that am asking for from anyone, just a list explaining what types of things we are looking for. sometimes people have things laying around *(like the videos) that they donot use anymore and perhaps are willing to send along. this is a list of "wished for items" that woudl help in setting up a good homeschool progran.

* free (or very cheap [VERY!]) educational software geared for:
math grade level 6 and up.
science grade level 6 and up.

* video tapes of Discovery Channel show airing on weekdays at 9AM (eudcation program for schools, homeschoolers etc. it is titled "assignment" (am thinking, but you can look it up online at discoverychannel.com tv. listings.)
These programs can be video taped (perhaps a weeks worth of shows will fit on one tape?) from home for anyone who has discovery channel. we do not get tv out here. unless we bought a satellite dish, which we cant do. Have viewed online the listing for sept. (they only show one month in advance) and the topics are interesting and look to be very eudcational.). am hoping to get some of these videos, this will bring a "multimedia" approach to the program we are setting up. Mika responds very well to visual/auditory stimulus together, and seems to regurgitate videos very much to begin with. so perhaps some of that will be of benefit for his learning process.
AND/OR any other educational videos on topics related for the grade 7 and up level. Any programs/vidoes on animals. human habitats, continents, civilizations (ancient), current cultures of the world, explenations of the religions of the world, explenations of political structures/viewpoints, scientific topics, environment, weather, etc. etc.

* if anyone has a copy of a computer program (for PC)that teaches how to program video games. we have seen it at futureshop but it is very expensive ($80!) and this is what son is very interested in doing right now, or tutorials on buiding webpages. he is also very interested in this. and am going to incoropate this into his curriculum. he will research a topic, and build a webpage on that topic.

* have an old printer (Epson stylus colour 500) which is the better quality of the two printers that have (even though it is already 7 yrs old, it is stillbetter then the canon) the old one is just not working, propably the ink jets are clogged, and that is all that is wrong with it. but it is half the weeks groceries to get that looked after, so havent done it. But also have a more current printer, canon BJC 2100 which is out of ink. still, the ink costs almost as much as having the epson cleaned so have not gotten ink for that either. this is what am hoping to use to print up some visual schedules, as well as some charts but cannot afford to buy any printer ink for a while now. having some ink for this printer woudl be such a big help to set up the schedules for both kids, and some charts for progress on things they are trying to work on.

* oars for a boat. we have a boat to use, with no motor and we have no oars. this will be a part of physical education, (we have an island about 1 1/2 miles away where we can go to set up a "wilderness camp" which will be a part of the natural sciences curriculum. The island is perfect because son can start learning how to use a compass, and "survival skills" without getting lost away from mineself(he cant leave the island )

* dry erase board, and dry erase markers.
* any used books on orienteering, survival skills(reading compass, topigraphical maps, building shelters, smoking fish, meats, identifying edible plants, mushrooms etc. etc. etc. for the 'island wilderness camp")

* any used books (or other material) for small building projects. such as flower planters, wicker furniture, stools, wood carving etc. etc. we will incorporate the use of hand tools, and building things into the curriculum. as per suggested by OT for some physical type activities where he can lift heavy things, and us gross motor skills coupled with fine motor skills.

* Mika wants to learn beading (this is from a list of suggested activities for his fine motor skills). so anyone who has any "seed beads" (the smallest plastic beads) or "pony beads" (the larger plastic beads) this woudl be very helpful. also any patterns for bead work.

this is our HUGE wish list.
and as time goes on, we are hoping to collect some of these materials.

we have named our homeschool program.
the ******* Lake Survival School.

this is what mika named it ( the ***'s hide the true hameof our lake). he said because:
"this school make me survive to grow up" (he was verging on suicidal about school at the end of his term last yr. so he is feeling like this school is helping him live.)
