I think that they are making this recommendation because they think that the parents/public are morons.
They JUST got rid of a bunch of thimerosol in the infant vaccines and they started going around saying, "we haven't had mercury in the vaccines for years" (that lady from NIH or CDC, on the Nightline with Peter Jennings) They want to plant in the "public" mind that it has been awhile, rather than the last of the thimerosal vaccines shelf life expiring in 2002, this year.
Then, she also said, that if there had been a correlation between the mercury and the vaccines, we would have seen a dramatic drop in the autism rate, and that it hasn't happened. But, that is because the onset is 18 months to 3 years; her argument is irrelevant, which makes her seem incompetent to those who understand the relevance of the onset. But, the fact of the matter is, they don't care about the people who already know and understand. They want to make sure that the general public is under the impression that she is giving the facts. (and that those are facts...she hides under her title and CDC/NIH cover)
So, the flu shot recommendation, to me is merely a ruse to make sure that the prevalence doesn't dramatically drop where it can be notably traced to the vaccines. Yes, it is unconsciousable that they would sentence more children to autism. But, they are out of touch and are into self-preservation at this point. Either that, or they have truly convinced themselves that they are doing this for the "good of all". (and if that is the case, I would LOVE to be a juror for their "judgement day")
Regardless, it is merely medical politics and our children are the casualties of war. The pawns in the chess game.
