"one mroe thoguht is often people who hold these types of seminars are not really interested in helping the individuals on Spectrum personally, often they are more geared to helping the parents and families of autistic kids cope. there is a profound difference in their focus, would you not agree?"
Yes. Medical, advocacy, legal and other resources knowledgeable about ASD are virtually 100% geared toward helping childhood issues (early interventions, special ed etc).
But when your efforts pay off and if your child recovers enough to become independent and self-sufficient adult - that's when he or she becomes most vulnerable, since no resources is available to support and protect them in dealing with issues of adult life, and parents by that time are often out of the picture or simply do not have authority or guardianship to act on behalf of your child (such as in employment discrimination situations etc).
Why? As one of rare professionals experienced in working with AS adults put it bluntly, "AS adults normally cannot afford hiring professional help (a lawyer, for example), while parents would give up anything to help their young children. That's why nobody interested in helping them defend their rights." Vicious cycle.
