Response to Oh, and where are you located, |
| I'm a little early, but our school break is over on the 2nd and I have no idea when I will have time to visit cyber world. Things are crazy at work. (busy, but I love it!)
Momof2...sorry! Sounds like you are going through a rough time. When my son used to bite it was a very frightening thing at first. Then through research and workshops I found that he was trying to communicate. Also, in his case, it was his aide that was actually overstepping her roles and he was trying to bite to communicate he was being abused. (long story..most people on this board probably remember me coming for help, trying to pull it together) As soon as we got rid of the inadequate inhumane aide, things improved.
And sassy (Cheryl) is right. It is the school's responsibility. It doesn't surprise me that the principal would try to make you feel bad. They all do that. It is a "bullying" tactic, though. They want to guilt you into withdrawing your child so they don't have to provide an education for them. But, they also know that if they would DO THEIR JOBS, and provide the supports (workshops, trainings, evaluations, etc) that are necessary to work with your child, they could sidestep the problems. But alas, they have found that it is easier to play the parent(s) (who are outnumbered) against the school personnel. They really have no shame. Like sass pointed out, though, you have the law on your side. They know it, but they like to "play" stupid. (not a stretch for most of them)
I'm sorry that you have to go through this. Parents of children with autism are harrassed and discriminated to no end. Take heart....the games and crap they put us through will surely win them a hot spot someday down under. I cannot imagine treating anyone, let alone children that have a severe disability, the way they do and think that they can sidestep hell. What comes around goes around. Some day they will get theirs. Peace.
