Response to childhood diseases

I had a freind come over last weekend. She has 2 children. Her oldest is getting ready to begin Kindergarden this fall (I talked her into getting his MMR titers checked before immuninizing) and her daughter has Celiac.

Anyway, when they got to my house my Daniel and Michelle were in the yard wearing only t shirts and they were "getting worms". We have a mud hole that Michelle likes to fill up every so often and she worm hunts and puts the worms in my garden.

These kids were dressed like they were going to get pictures taken! They wanted to join my kids. OK. I have no problem. I gave them both old t-shirts and sent them out in the yard. Their mom was furious. "They might get germs from the mud." I got a good laugh off that one. I told her "So, it washes off. The kiddie pool is on the deck. They can splash around in that for while. Mud washes off."

She told me that I didn't understand their might be some disease... OK like what? No answer.

She calmed down after a while. The kids had a great time in the mud and in the kiddie pool. When they got out of the kiddie pool. Would ya'll beleive she took out those germ free, anticeptic disposible wash clothes and washed those kids from head to toe?

I did ask her "How do you expect your children to get any immune resistance when they live almost in a bubble? Why don't you just go out and buy them a buble and let them live in that?"

I have been chuckling about this all week. Thanks for giving me the oppurtinity to giggle a bit more!
