I couldnt imagine not letting them play in mud...reminds me of a sleepover once...
Gerald had about 5 friends over for his annual birthday sleepover, I think he was 4 or 5....we had gone down to the Inlet behind our house, and the tide was wayyyy out and it was mostly mud...needless to say i let them wallow in it. They were alll covered head to toe in mud (and i DOOO mean covered)...I knew it was getting close to the time for the parents to come pick them up, but imagine my horror as we walked back to the hourse and two of the parents were there (and I was a weee bit muddy myself)...one of the parents DIED laughing...one of the parents looked at all of us and about died. She was absolutley speechless and was stuttering out how do i get him home...I had already told them i would have to hose em down before they were allowed inside. Its interesting because this parents same child also was horrified i was letting them eat dinner on the floor in the living room...AND he started crying when they knocked over his pop-repeating Im sorry, Im sorry- He was shocked i laughed it off! He also said please and thank you alot so I guess he had been trained well...
I myself think life is for living and letting kids experience the joy of being a child ... lifes(and especially childhood) too short to take everything so seriously and expect them to be minature adults..... |
