Greetings to all former 819th members. I am Joe Greil and was deployed to Phu Cat in the 67 -68 rotation. I was in the Utilities Branch under SMSgt Sam Adams and TSgt Ray Goheen in the Refer Shop. You may have remebered the rifrigerated salad bar in the mess hall as one of our creations.
If any others are out threre from 67 - 68 I'd like to hear from you.
I just found out about the RED HORSE ASSOCIATION and joined. I was in the 819th, 67-68, at Phu Cat and in Nov of '67 was sent to Pleiku with the first detachment. I would love to hear from you and any others from the 66-67-68 group.
I just heard of website for the REDHORSE. I would love to hear from anyone serving from 1967-68 in Viet Nam. I was in the Maintenance Squadron of the 819th. I remember the SALAD Bar!
Marcia and I want to extend our thanks for a great reunion with our brothers in the 819th. We had a wonderful time and was felt very welcome by all. I took a lot of photos and most of them came out great. Look for these soon on the redhorseassociation.org page. Compliments go out to Jim Lee and Hugh Kendall for a well planned reunion. Looking forward to the next one which I believe will be at Ft. Walton in Oct 2005.
Thanks again, Tom & Marcia Gallagher, 555 67-68
I am looking forward to the next reunion at Ft. Walton beach as it would be good for our unit to have a good showing for the all Red Horse 40 year reunion. See you all there
We will be there for the 819th Reunion. I will be taking photos for a future yearbook type web page. See you at the "World's most beautiful beaches". Tom Gallagher, 555 CES
Enjoy your site, at least what I can see of it. The red background and blue letters make it awfully difficult to read or is it just me? Tom Gallagher 555 CES 1968
We are going to the Reunion.Don't know who all is going this time. Everyone is like us I guess and not been on here much for awhile. Hope to see you all there.
I was stationed with the 819th REDHORSE Squadron at RAF Wetheresfield UK from Jan 1985 to Jan 1987. My friend and I have been trying to find out the history of the 819th and where and when the different places it was assigned. I knew the 819th was in Viet Nam because I remember some of the equipment we had specificaly came from there. ( My Job Title was " Base Vehicle Mechanic") At the time it wasn't all that interesting as I was only 21, but now that I have aged in years and have been trying to find people from the 819th in England, I have also wondered about it's history. The 819th has been moved a couple of times since I left England, and from what I hear now , it is now in Montanna. I was able to aquire a little bit of info from this website about it's history in Viet Nam and for that I applaud you for your hard work and dedication to keeping the HORSE alive.
Hi Kelly, I am assuming that you got to the message board via the Red Horse Connection home page. If you did, you can click onto "from the horse's mouth" to get a fairly detailed history of the first year of one of the best CES in USAF. Ed Beckford did a great job in putting it together.
As to then and now, last I checked the 819th is in fact at Malstrom (sp?) AFB, Montana. I understand they may been deployed during the most recent Iraq conflict...not sure of that.
As for pride of unit, I was 19 at the time and to be able to be part of something that good has remained with me to this day. In a difficult period of our country's history, we served...emboding the motto: "duty, honor, country" and those that came after continued the tradition.
Hi everyone, I hope you are well today. One of ours, Claude Zimmerman, has passed away. We do not know any details except that he had been in poor health. If you want to send a card or call or e-mail please see below. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. John and Pat Nelson
