Shot a few macros at lunch today. What do you think of these as far as bokeh? The wind was blowing that flower all over the place. I'm surprised it came out like it did.

All the best,

try using a slightly smaller F-stop. I don't care for totally blowing out the background. But, it's all a matter of personal taste. Did that with your 18-200!?! Even with the wind they came out nice...

Truth be told, this was the first really nice day since I got the camera and I was taking some test shots in auto mode. I just wanted a baseline for camera performance in the sun. What I found was the same thing that Ken Rockwell mentions on his site, the Nikon tends to over expose on a sunny day. I took about 50 shots and for the most part they were all over exposed. The shot was taken at 200mm, ISO 200, F-8, 1/200s Exp. Comp. 0 in Macro-mode.

Lesson learned, I’ll be shooting in one of the manual modes with exposure compensation at some negative number on sunny days.

Thanks for the comments!

All the best,
Mike S

I always fiddle with the exposure compensation to eliminate the problem. Usually one stop or less will correct it...
