Just wanted to write and thank everyone for their warm thoughts. It must have worked because this weekend was AWESOME!! According to the thermometer I brought, the high on Saturday was 86 and got down to 60 Saturday night. The sky was clear overnight, but had a few high clouds or haze that kept the stars a little dimmer than hoped, but the Milky Way was plainly visible (something I don't get to see from Olathe). Both days were bright and sunny. Sunday was perfect for running nude, with the temperature around 80 when we got started. There was a little bit of a breeze from time to time, but there needed to be more to help us cool off after the run.
The top three finishers were:
1) Keith
2) Boris
3) Greg
Congrats to all of you!! They won free swims for their placement - 3 for first place, 2 for second place, and 1 for third place. Several people grabbed classic issues of N magazine that Dick donated to the event. Thanks Dick for that!
The pot luck after the run was great too. Thanks Dick, Greg, Heather, and George for bringing all the food, drinks, and everything else out.
And, thanks to everyone at Gaea who helped with clearing the trail and working with us to plan the event. It was truly appreciated.
There will be a full-fledged Sun Run 2008 page put up as soon as I can find time to put it together. I just wanted to post a brief follow-up.
Thanks Mark for your work on the project and to the club for again sponsoring the Run - it has an eight year history by now and I'm glad it took place this year. I know it was up in the air but I felt it needed to go on to keep the string alive.
I camped overnight Saturday night at Gaea along with Mark. That was fun since I enjoy camping but don't do it often. Campfire, a "hot meal" - thanks for a being able to heat water for a cup of noodles type mean and fried potatoes Sunday morning once we rustled the fire back to life. Nice thing about fall camping, it's cool at night, not many bugs and we had a very pretty night sky - one meteorite, one satellite and lots of high flying jets spotted. A bonfire and rhythmic drumming courtesy of another group nearby added to the nighttime ambiance.
I did 4K of the 5K - at a walking pace and that was good - the three runners stayed in close formation and lapped the four of us who were walking the course several times. We'd clap and cheer them on but didn't join in and run.
Well done - hope something takes place again next year to keep the tradition alive.
I wish we (wife & I) could have been there. We had already planned for a clothed run this weekend, unfortunately.
Am I interpreting this correctly that there were seven participants - 3 runners, 4 walkers?
