my thread was accidentally deleted..(i thought..well maybe this topic is getting old)
anyhoo..i gave Koda a turkey neck from the fridge..it was soft but cold..he seemed excited but then after licking a bit and a few corn cobs he just layed by it..when i walked outside and sat on the patio he went to it and chewed a bit--i heard bones cracking..
well he really didn't get into it like i thought..i thik he has never had raw food in his life 8-ish years)
i will try chicken legs or wings next..
is it better for the meat to be frozen?? or should it be room temp?
someone mentioned pork...what about raw beef?
Koda loves cooked beef ribs...maybe I should give raw rib bones..
I would like to give it a good try before just giving up..
I think frozen is only to help avoid them from "gulping", it slows down the chewing, if I understand correctly.
I don't know about room temp...maybe not as good because of bateria, but I have NO idea.
Mikko gets chicken, beef and venison, all raw. The beef and/or venison is mixed in with his kibble each day. That is not frozen. I cut it up into cubes.
I believe raw rib bones would be better than the cooked. I bet he'd love it :)
never had a problem with eating the raw he just dove right in. I have read about people in your situation though and "experts I guess" said to put there bowl in front of them for 10 minutes or how ever long you give your dogs to eat normally then if they dont eat pull the bowl up. After awhile and there hungry enough they will eat. I have also read on how people put stuff on the raw "flavoring" to get there dog started. Most of the explinations that I found on why dogs will not eat raw is they dont know what it is and the dog food has all kinds of goodies that make it smell and taste a certain way to ensure that dogs will eat there kibble.
Hang in there, once he gets the hang of it, I think both of you will be glad you hung in there.
I feed Josey thawed, unless I forget to take it out the night before then he get partially frozen lol. He really dosnt mind either way just as long as he gets it.
One thing though when Josey started eating raw he always seemed to be hungry. I later discovered that he is just a pig. I forgot to feed him his breakfast one day and gave him his full days allowance in the afternoon. Soon as he was done eating he still acted like he was hungry. The pig just wanted more chicken. He is so funny now, he flips his lid when ever he sees a ziplock baggie. He will start jumping up and down like a pogo stick, never on one of us just straight up and down. Its the funnist thing.
I have been feeding Sheba a little bit of Canidae in the a.m. with yogurt, and raw chicken in the p.m. For the past few days she has licked the yogurt up and left the Canidae...she just has no interest in it. I will not be feeding her more Canidae after this half eaten bag is used up, but I'm wondering about stopping it altogether right now since she seems to have no interest in it. She still likes the plain yogurt. AND she tried bananas last night and ate them.
Here's my question...once the dogs get into the raw food, do they just no longer care for the kibble? Does the kibble just not cut it anymore since she's been exposed to the wonderfulness that is raw chicken?
