I AM curious about "gold DVD's". I remember Kodak used to carry a line of gold reflector CD's, then they went gold alloy, then they sold the line to Mitsui, I think. The theory, of course, is keeping a good reflective surface for the laser.
I've not run across similar in the DVD world. Also, DVD's have a layer over the reflector one, so they are inherently better protected.
Regardless, the weak point is the dye stability. Lots of claims, counter claims, no one really knows. Or if we do, how do we verify a given retail version has the good stuff? Wait until the grand kids can't read it?
OTH, I've been scanning family photos going back to about 1880..........
Maybe that's the ticket. Select your most important ones and make them silver B&W. |
