If I had to stay overnight again, I wouldn't have enough money to get home. Instead I hit up some parks.
2 PA, 3 MD, 1 VA, 2 WV and 1 NJ.
Lots of neat parks in Maryland with Civil War connections.
Gathland Park and a monument to War Reporters.
Greenbrier was "full" and they had a group of armed guards making sure the point got across. Real suspicious seeing every other park was almost vacant.
What sneaky-assed government shit was going on here?
In Fox Gap, behind the Reno Monument, http://www.cmhl.org/fox.html I followed a paved one lane road up a mountain. Good and winding. At the top there was a barbed wire fence and a security gate. Just a US Govt sign on the gate. No other markings. I saw a guy walking down near the bottom of the hill. He said 30 years ago they hauled in concrete for 3 months up the hill. Must be a secret underground operation.
Saw the steeple for this chapel miles away. Very German looking.
A private boarding school in Mercerburg.
A store on RT 9 in WV.
This couple was headed over to Gettysburg for a July 4th re-enactment of America's worst day.
1200 miles over the past two days. 600 of them in rain. I got that burning road trip desire out of my system, even if the Heavy Rebel mission was a failure.
Back home in Mudville tonight,
Later,
Ray
