Is anyone out there familiar with Ontario Provincial Highway 502 south out of Dryden to TCH 11? It looks like a hundred miles of twisty rural road and it should be paved all the way, but looking at the satellite images makes me suspicious.
I can't comment on ON 502, but Hootis is right, Hwy 71 is very nice. I rode it for the first time in almost thirty years early last May. It was chilly, but there was zero traffic and zero OPP. Observing the GPS on 71, you'll find yourself going east and west as much as north and south; of course, you may already know this if you rode it last June (like many MN1K riders) during the rally.
Bonus number one: take a picture of the large World War I monument in downtown Kenora. 1,293 points. Fun times before it started to rain a little bit.
Yikes. Piney indeed. Thinking about that night brought on a tinge of chest tightening adreneline rush. I can't beleive how lucky I was to have just cleared the forest when that storm hit. Out on the flat plain during that storm was easily the scariest half hour I've ever spent on a motorcycle. It's also the slowest half hour I've ever spent on one. Can't go very fast when you have to keep looking down past your left footpeg to find the yellow line. Going paddle foot speed, having to put your foot down to keep from being blown over, cloud to ground lightning all around, less than 10 foot visibility......now I need a beer. It's noon somewhere.
As I recall, 502 has zero services between Ft. Frances and Dryden. That may have changed, it's been a few years since I've been on it. A very remote feeling ride in my recollection.
The thanked us for not speeding. Not sure why we got pulled over though. After thanking us for not speeding, they wished us "Safe Journeys" and sent us on our way. Guess they just eanted to say howdy. Very nice guys.
Yes they are always polite and professional. I was pulled over on my way to pheasant hunt last fall. (59 in a 55 NO kidding) I was suprized to find out I had a warning ticket I new nothing about from the MN 1000. Talked with a very nice officer at the Bronson State Park and apparently that was enough to get in the system. My LEO brother informed me the new MN system keeps all records for everthing for ever now. (Even if they just say Hi) The patrol person informed that if I visit with them again I will get a ticket. Two years before the system links to local LEO systems. Take Care Brian.
