Polaroid film availability warning!

May 12 2008 at 12:06 PM

My friends, if you haven't purchased any Polaroid film for the Minnesota 1000 yet, please do so as soon as possible. Last week I was forced (for only the second time in my life) to enter a Super Wal-Mart; since I was there anyway, I decided to pick up some extra film.

There were only two packs left, and they were under lock and key. And they set off the alarm as I left the building. The clerk in the film department said she didn't think they would be getting any more.

The bonuses for this year's rally will be half photo, half anwser a question. I believe the vast majority of riders will not take more than ten photos (one pack of film); if you are striver for wood and glory, two packs would be helpful.

You have been warned.

What happened to the Uniform Rules being amended to include a digital option? That was supposed to be imminent as of April 17...

Otherwise its the 1 hr photo for me... I'll make sure to get them done at Wal*mart to raise the Rally master's ire.

BTW, stopped by Betty's Pies yesterday. Only $16 for a full pie!

idiot

It was clearly stated back in January that this year's MN1K would be Polaroid only, and whatever Butt Lite was up to would not be relevant.

Moron.

If it's any consolation, Target had the same price as Wal-Mart, for those who eschew the Walton Empire.

Ha! Screw you anyways. Just checked and I have 14 of them left. Expired in Jan '07 and been in the garage a couple years, but I'm sure there still good. Yeah, sure.

PolaROID

May 12 2008, 3:49 PM

When walking by the photo departments of a Wal-Mart and Target in St. Paul not long ago, I didn't see any Polaroid film on any of the racks.

I didn't ask at the counter, though. Good idea.

"Yo, Mr. Man, ya gots a pack of the good stuff in the back. Yeah, it was Bart what sent me."

I picked up two 20-packs of Polaroid film at Mills Fleet Farm a couple of months ago.

I wonder what the going rate for a ten-pack will be at the Liar's Banquet?

This is no joke, people. Get thee to any store that sells the stuff now. I can't change the laws of physics, and we will not be prepared for digital in less than five weeks.

Where's the love

May 12 2008, 4:00 PM

I think you two boys need a trip down to Iowa to remember how friends and loved ones treat each other. Such hostility so early in the game. That kind of animosity shouldn't come out for another 30 days or so.

So,hey Bart...since your on the line, how's about a hint on one of the more...crap,take your pick I guess..off-beat or considering everything..off the beaten path bonus locations for the MN1k?
I think it's time to start stirring the pot so that it's at a boil by the time the liars banquett starts.

There is something wrong with looking forward to being in the middle of "fill in the state" at 1;30 am taking A POLOROID of the post office or something....I dont think its DNA cause my Dad doesn"t do it...or at least he hasn"t told me....

So,beside's telling us it's probably not a good ideal to blast through a border crossing, what will you share with us?

Thanks,thanks alot,
Mark

hints

May 13 2008, 8:10 AM

I thought I already said way too much back in that "pie" thread; perhaps most folks missed it. Probably for the best.

I will say that there are no bonuses in Canada and no bonuses in Wisconsin.

I can hear the cheering already.

I think you should go back to madatory bonus locations again this year that everyone has to hit before the event - and they should ALL be in Michigan - so a few of us can have the big payback.

Since we are not going to do that well anyways - it wouldn't really matter - and would go down as one of those great overtures of good will towards out-of-state riders.

La la, lalal, la la, la

May 13 2008, 9:41 AM

Steffen,
I got 17! I'll barrow you a snapshot or two.
I just got done looking at a picture of Bart, and it was a good picture I have to admit. Then the skin started melting off his face, and all the blood drained away, and then snakes came out of the eye sockets, and lighting bolts shot out of the ear holes in his skull! Then the picture just burned up in my hand. It reminded me of what happened to the Nazis in the final scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark movie.
What do you think the significance is? I think it has something to do with his obsession with mud.

Mud? Only if it rains - I'm sure it won't. Almost all bonuses are reachable without leaving pavement. Of course, there are a few big ones that require a little bit of gravel time; the worst one is only three miles...although when I was on it, thought to myself, "if the Dempster Highway is going to be 450 miles of this, I'm not going..."

And food. Might be a good idea to skip breakfast before the rally; you might be able to eat your way to wood this year.

Note to Wayne: mandatory bonuses in effect for riders from the following states only; Michigan. And Kentucky.

Jimmy,
That post was obviously suppose to go to another board about another rally. I apologize to Bart for my mistake.

2-tests done, 2-to go, done Thursday 4 o'clock, Deb and I are headed to the Black hills with friends at O-dark-thirty Friday morning. I haven't bought a tank of gas for the bike this year yet... I'm fine, everything is fine, no problems, everything's good, no worries, everything is just peachy!

Sorry, but BBQ would be too enjoyable. We'll have one for the carnivores, and perhaps a legume-based dish for the vegetarians amongst us.

Can't help you vegans out.

May 14 2008, 5:23 PM

Tuesday morning, 3am. The proposal I've been working on since 7am is due in eleven hours. It's going to be tight. Some of the folks in the office are starting to show the stress. Me? I'm smiling and thinking this is good practice for the MN1k! ;^)

more important Polaroid discussion

May 15 2008, 8:00 AM

RE: Mark. Non.

If you are a new (to Team Strange rallies) rider and do not already own a Polaroid camera and are having trouble finding one to purchase, a couple of suggestions: you can share a camera if you're riding with someone who has one already; if you're blessed with older relatives, perhaps one might have a camera in the attic.

If there are Strangers out there who are not riding in the event, or have multiple cameras and are generous enough to loan one out, please let me know.

...for cameras and such don't forget craigslist; this one has Rally Master written all over it: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/pho/675550138.html

Found 8 (now 7) packs of 600 film at the Walmart in Blaine at 35W & CR17. No glass case, but it did trip the alarm at the door. Sam's getting it back if it's not used by rally's end.

Seems to be plenty of film at the Walmart I called. I suspect that availability is bolstered by the rumor that State of Michigan Economic Development staffers use poloroid film in their presentations soliciting business to move to Michigan.

Now that's funny, but I'm not sure if it's because they're using an archaic medium, or because they're not using enough of it. Or both.

Come to think of it, it's not that funny.

Blame wherever it is our Gov is from, not that she has any real impact on the economy...

who needs to check that both cameras work (go $1 garage sale bargains), and the film is still good.

We have two working Polaroid cameras we won't be using in the rally.

You'll need your own 600 series film.

Let me know - motosusan at comcast.net
