For Jon, and all who may worry.

Somewhere, not that far from Cherokee.

Waving is good. I have waved from my bike and been waved back to by people on tractors, fishing in boats, on one occasion flying a plane, and driving a train (International Falls). Waving is good, especially when they use their entire hand.

Back in high school my summer job was to work on the crew that drilled water wells all over NW Iowa with my dad and two other men. Most our customers were farmers; this was before the rural water project were started. We did a fair number of jobs in Cherokee county.

Anyways, when driving to and from jobs along the backroads of NW Iowa, we frequently got a wave from approaching drivers; usually a forefinger lifted off the steering wheel. I still see that behavior when I take the backroads to go visit my parents; the Iowa farmer wave.

Is Bart indicating that it would be wise to come to the rally on a Farmall or John Deere, or maybe a Massy Ferguson?

Pavement ends?!?

May 27 2008, 11:55 PM

Well, our family farm featured Case diesel tractors for the big work, and gas-powered Farmalls for the small stuff and winter starting ability. 'Twas a sad day when Case and IH combined to make one company.

Seriously, to all neophytes concerned (and anyone else), the photo was just some fun. Almost all bonuses are reachable by paved roads - no gravel required. There are several that do require you to ride on gravel. You do not have to visit them if that bothers you.

I will gladly answer any questions regarding road surfaces after the rally packs are handed out. This is a road event, not an enduro.

Though it's kind of fun to pretend it might be...

Great!?!

So what I'm hearin' is take the Karoo dual sport tires off the CBX and put the street tires back on. The spoons are getting quite a workout.
I'm sooo confused, no wait, that's the concussion...
Ahhhhh there's the cheezy poofs.

I was just inquiring...

The more varied the road surfaces the better the ride.

I was also just reminiscing about past tractor travel.
