Yesterday as I was cruising along L37 or somewhere in the Little Soiux River Valley roads,I was laughing cause the roads were good yuks at pace...actually,I think I had a smile on my face most of the rally ...thanks for finding and sharing some great roads and destinations with us!
Matter of fact,Bart, thanks for spending the amount of time you did to put up such a great event,John and Susan and Peter, things could not have went as smooth as they did with out your time and effort as well, thank you both too, friend of the rally awards were earned for sure!
It's always good to see old strangers and I met some cool first timers too!
And Eddie I am again glad that years ago,you and Adam and a few other strangers tried doing this 24 hour rally thingy...I guess I would call it a success....
...Bart, job well done by you and your volunteers!
I had a blast, I saw more riders on this rally then any other, that was a lot of fun.
I chased a few guys into Iowa, saw them later paying there Iowa road use tax (they must have failed to send it in before the rally), chased Spiderman Sev, across Iowa, Mo, Ka, Ia, ect..
There was about 8 riders in Tabor Ia when I got there....
Got some wind, rain, and hail south of Sioux Falls.
I was about 6 feet away from getting smoked by a guy blowing a stop sign in N. Omaha... whew.
How about 116 in Kansas, and Mo. glad I got to ride that one in the daylight.
About the Forest of Friends huh?.... arghhh.
... I was happy to put some miles on, considering the motor for my bike was on the shop floor a week ago.
Super-mega thanks to Leo's South and Bart (and the rest of the MN1K volunteers and helpers) for another fantastic rally. Kelsey just woke up after sleeping for 12+ hours and wants to go again (LD riding is extremely infectious). I'll put together another short website with a bunch of photos and ride report.
Thank You to Bart and Leo's and all the crew for another great event. Bart if you have a chance please call 952-442-5239 or email me brianj@brass-handle.com I have a few questions. Thanks Brian.
Thanks to Leo's South for again welcoming a rag-tag bunch of misfits. And all the volunteers (Pedrow, the Dean's, Gus and and the other scorers, and anyone else I missed) who unselfishly donate their time and energy just so we can play. And thanks to Bart, who continues to provide so many fun and challenging ways to spend a weekend on 2 wheels.
Congrats to all the winners! Marty's third win is an accomplishment I've not seen in any other rally, and one that won't be broken anytime soon. Congrats Marty!
Gary, Alan, Brant, Daryl, Jim and Mike...welcome to the Expert class.
I had a wonderful time riding roads and seeing sites I'd never visit otherwise. My favorite roads were Kansas State road 7 (who knew Kansas had such a great road?), Missouri 116 between Atchison and Plattsburg, and the Loess Scenic byway. I'm glad I was able to ride these during daylight hours.
Favorite bonus was the Loess Hills Scenic Overlook. It was the one I wish I could have spent more time just soaking in the view. Most memorable was the creepy walk to the toll bridge near Laclede Missouri. Didn't help that I was there at midnight.
Earning the Ray Bentdahl award was special for me. I'd never ridden that many miles during a rally before and it was a great challenge. I used up almost the entire 24 hours and had to pass up some of Bart favorite bonuses in the Minnesota River Valley. Knowing how tough it was on using my modern sport touring bike and being in good health, a have a much better appreciation and respect of Ray's accomplishment. His spirit and attitude are what this event is all about.
