My GPS sent me on a loop near Thayer and dropped the bike in the greasiest mud I've ever ridden on, note the cool tracks:
Glad I was able to pick it up! And at least it didn't disturb my make-shift Oil filler cap from my first gas stop, what does that mean, just think about it!
Still had a blast, and would like to try again next year!
those pictures are way too big! I've not seen cameras that shoot "that small" (640*480, or 10xx*xxx)of a picture in years, though I'm sure they're out there, somewhere...
I'm pretty sure that my ST100 wiped out your "mud angels". The neighbors probably thought aliens where landing what with my headlight spinning in circles in the darkness and the noises coming out of my helmet.
The road directly south of the bonus shown on this map (Talmage Hill) was posted a (?) Class 2 non-maintained road, or something like that, enter at your own risk.
My GPS showed I should travel south there too. I saw the sign, debated, and then considered Bubba would've killed me if I went straight. Glad I turned around. That's the road on the way out where I discovered that I could counter-steer on a K1200. Even riding that hard, Bubba still caught up!
My dad was born near Arispe, not far from the National Landmark; I told him it makes him more important. The road(s) to Thayer were not nice when wet. I was there myself at 6 a.m., just after sunrise in early May, and the rain had just ended. Even with three wheels, it was greasy.
Not that anyone's whining, but it is the Minnesota 1000 we may or may not be complaining about. I mean, it's supposed to be hard, innit?
I was fun going there at night. In a weird coincidence I had been there about 5 years ago. I was heading home from something and saw the sign. Know the TS obsession with monuments down dirt roads I checked it out. Just as I remember it. It was wet when I got there and some guy on a wing had tipped over in the soft stuff but it was the usual MN1K kind of bonus. Obscure.
Really glad I was able to blast through this one after getting a bum knee heaving piggie up a few days before on this Silly Garmin short cut called Cemetery Road:
As much as I really want to do this ride, I'm out for this year. I need to concentrate on the many, many projects at home--make that "homes"--that have been put off for too long. If I can get most of this stuff done, I will be able to participate in a LOT more events in 2009. I'm sure that once Susan and I are finally together in one house, she will be so sick of me that she can't wait for me to load the bike and take off for a weekend or two.
For now, I'll have to live vicariously through the rest of you and hope to read ride reports from some of your adventures.
Time to finish my beer, pop a couple of Ibuprofen and head for bed. The concrete guy is coming way too early tomorrow.....
begs the question "Whats piggie's dry weight again fool?"

This is a GREAT River Gravel Ride with a pretty tame party (& riding) crowd. Rable rousers needed. Plan now for next year! It may lead you to a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow:
