Go Dawgs!

August 3 2008, 6:07 PM

Ok, so this has nothing to do with football but I was so pleased to see that Donna Phillips was representing UGA so well with her great t-shirt I just couldn't help myself.

Good Luck Jim & Donna!! See you at the end!

Playing along at home

August 3 2008, 9:30 PM

My memory is bad, but wasn't there something on this here website about playing along at home and a chance at winning $500.00? Course, I'm actually at the Hotel in Decatur, but that is just a technicality.

I SOOO wish I was riding...

August 5 2008, 10:11 AM

its hard to say for sure because I wasn't in rally mode, but the 10 state fuel shure would be up my alley...

John Coons was the last potential rider to talk to us about the 10-state bonus. he decided against going.

Running consensus was that if John went and did it, the rally might have been his to lose.

A sole rider taking the 10 state bonus would possibly have been in Mandan some 1500 points up on the field--in an event where top riders would likely see another 15,000 points by riders end.

hypothetical question: if the Phippils or Miller or Coons or other top level rider had done the 10 state bonus, other riders would then have to out run them by 10% on every remaining leg to catch up.

speculate away on the likliness of that....

its doable

August 5 2008, 1:21 PM

well to catch up by that much on 3 legs would be a challenge but doable, but that does not give any room for error, I still think I would have gone the way of the ten state fuel bonus...

Of course that assumes that one of the top riders who would complete said bonus, wouldn't make a mistake in the later rounds, such as riding through a cornfield that he shouldn't have.

It also assumes that one of the top riders wouldn't have a change of heart and decide to set off on a personal adventure, such as visiting the Bonneville Salt Flats, because he'd never been there.

A lot can happen...

A few more photos from the start here http://picasaweb.google.com/coast.rider/BL5

Just after the final riders meeting before the start I heard an anguished cry "I'm not leaving until I get a fuel log". Sounded like Winterer.

I can't take it any more!!

August 12 2008, 5:08 PM

I need updates! It's 1700 and I need to know who's in' who's lost and who went towards the light. How many cheladas has Coons had already. Did Winterer talk to any cows? Did they talk back? Did Peter take off sightseeing? Oh, and photos would be nice too.

Coons' misfortunes are directly related to his intake of Cheladas.
I told him, said beverage is the devil's work, but NOOOO, he didn't listen.
