Oil bath for rear tire working nicely. Aborted original plan and am heading the most direct route to Decatur getting the points I can. It won't be pretty.
Waffle house is good.
Aaron, call my cell at 507 951 5277 and leave a message. Perhaps we can share a room on Monday night somewhere in KY.
Well, I made it back. Lots of flower sniffing and two full meals in Waffle Houses later. The bike spewed oil all over me, itself, and the surrounding countryside. I was worried it would get more on the back tire than it was, but so far it's rideable. I enjoyed the relaxed pace, although thought I had a good plan before things went wonky. It's almost time for the banquet.
Here's a view from the inside. Nobody can overtake Peter's lead. Regular wisdom says take it easy early on and ramp up as the legs go on. Peter ignored this and pushed hard at every level. He will deserve the win I believe he has locked up.
Lots of hard riding from other riders too. Bumped into Mike Senty and Richard Buber in rural GA after I realized my rally had taken a turn. They were diagnosing an electrical problem in Mike's bike, and it looked solveable when I left. I told them i was going to look for a place to take a nap so I could be at the Atlanta bonuses when they opened in the morning, and start heading to Decatur. They told me they had just left the Ramada up the road a mile, and left the door ajar and was welcomed to the room. I headed up there and laid down right on the bed in full riding gear. Set the alarm, slept through it, and housekeeping woke me up. Thanks guys, it was great sleep!
Victor Wanchena drove over a curb in a sleep deprived stupor trying to get into a hotel parking lot. Front rim got bent and immiediatly went flat. He and Howard Stueber hammered back into shape to hold air again, and some fix a flat was required. Looking at it now I see there is some duct tape on the rim. I'm sure that's what did it.
I got to run the banquet is about to start. There's more stories to be told later.
