In mid Dec 2003 what one of those day that I will always remember for life. Trout fishing at Lake Amador near Ione, California. The home of the Cutbows. I was fortunate enough today to have aboard my boat Dan Bacher managing editor of the Fishsniffer Newspaper. Everybody knows Dan and what he has done to help with our fishery resources. I have fished with Dan several times and have enjoyed every trip we have taken. Also aboard today was Jim Junttila (Michigan's northermost outdoor writer) Jim is a legendary writer with many of our country's better known out door journals. They put on a demonstration of their skills in fishing. They were using light spinning action outfits equipped with 4 pound main line and Shelton quick release #10 bait hooks with TadPole™ snagless weights. The bait of choice was green chartreuse sparkle Power bait with 18-48 inch leaders. I didn't retain any fish for myself but Dan and Jim took home 8 trout ranging from 2-6 pounds. They were all caught on quick release hooks. Jim was like a kid with a new toy getting to see all the new trick stuff and was burning his camera up and drilling me like a drill Sargent. He was amazed at the magical way the quick release hook comes out of deeply hooked fish. It's amazing the kind of top secret info these skilled pro's can get out of you. They got some of my closely guarded secrets and even some lessons in speed knotting--Only revealed to the closest of fishing buddies. I stayed behind the camera.
